It's a fun, very quick stop. They don't seem as wild as you may be hoping for though. The biggest disappointments were the fact that the trail along it was closed with caution tape and that there was basically no information on the display board in front of the pens. I would have loved to learn more about the ponies... More

The story of these ponies is interesting but the facility isn't. Most days there is only a long distance view of the horse-sized ponies.

The stop is quick, and the pony pen easy to view, You do need to walk across the highway and can climb up a platform for an even better view than I had from the ground. Interesting information posted, There is a ramp to walk to the beach that is handicap accessible but it is a bit of an incline... More

We went to Ocracoke Island to see the wild ponies. We were not aware that they were corralled and very much not "wild" behind the fences where they were fed and even had barns. Looking at them at the look out site was much like seeing tame horses in someones field. If you want to see the wild ponies I... More

Almost our entire Ferry crew made the same stop to the Pony Pens. There isn't much to do at the pens but my kids were so excited to see the ponies. The mosquitoes were really bad though. Apply some bug spray before heading over.

They were descendants of the original island horses. They were in a fenced area. Not much really to see about them. Flyers saying they are up for adoption.

Along the highway you'll see the little gem on the right hand side. You're not able to touch the Ponies but they're so cool to just sit and watch, and right to the left is the ocean. Check it out you guys!

We stopped, really just to see what was there, but unless you just don't ever get to see horses/ponies, there is not much to see. We were there about 3 minutes, max. I'm sure children would be excited over it, but for adults, not so much.

You have to get to the ferry early, right? Go extra early & visit the horses. This is a free exhibit with free parking. There is a viewing stage that overlooks a section of the pens & even watching them in the distance is worth it.

This place is an interesting stop for island history. It's a pen with an observation deck for viewing the wild ponies of the area. That's it. If you've ever been to a farm, you've seen ponies before. You can't pet them or get near them. So, it's about a five minute stop. Still, it's a live look at part of... More
