Fun Trip

Family spent a weekend at the Outer Banks. Had a great time exploring the Lighthouse, but did not climb to the top as our son is too short to make the trip

The pond by the lighthouse always has an excellent collection of ducks, geese, swans and shorebirds in the winter. We even saw a clapper rail.

The Lighthouse and Keepers Quarters(now the Ranger station and visitors center) at Bodie (pronounced Body) Island is a nice easy self guided tour through history. The lighthouse standing there today is not the original, I'lI leave the story for you to find when you visit. The view from the top of the Lighthouse is breath taking, and having climbed the... We drove to Bodie LightHouse expecting to be able to climb to the top of the structure. Nope... the lighthouse itself was closed. We still walked the property and walked out to the elevated platform in the water, which was nice. The woman in the office was nice and answered some questions I asked. Still had a nice time.

Stopped here whilst doing the drive down the Outer Banks Scenic Byway. It is a lovely place and the lighthouse is well preserved. There were no staff present when we visited but there are plenty of informatin boards telling the history. There are picnic areas and plenty of parking

A fun site to visit, the stairs are somewhat different since you can see through them. Very good group of people that run the site.

This is a National Park Service area. The lighthouse has a first generation Ferznel lens which was taken off during the Civil war and was lost for some time. When it was found it was resorted and put back in place. It is valued at several million dollars. It still functions today.

I visited in February on a cold day. It was very quiet and serene. The property was very well maintained. The boardwalk was beautiful and plenty of wildlife to see, including a somewhat friendly young opossum (he posed for me!). I was sad that the lighthouse was closed for climbing, but i'll definitely come back in the spring and when... More

Bodie (pronounced body)Lighthouse is located between Nags Head and Oregon Inlet. I visited in February so it was not open to climb but it is "in season". The keepers house which is the visitor center and gift shop was open. There is also and boardwalk that takes you to a viewing platform in the marsh for bird watching. There were... More
