Andy Griffith's hometown of Mount Airy, North Carolina is home to the new Andy Griffith Museum. Come see the largest collection of Andy Griffith memorabilia collected by his friend Emmett Forrest. The collection features hundreds of items from the life and career of Andy Griffith in movies, television, and music as well as a variety of memorabilia. There are even actual props from The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock given by Andy Griffith himself. The collection also includes items donated by cast members and  actors from The Andy Griffith Show, as well as a special exhibit on the career of actress and current Mount Airy resident Betty Lynn who played Thelma Lou. Admission to the Andy Griffith Museum also includes an exhibit on the Siamese Twins; a photography exhibit "Mount Airy to Mayberry," and the Old-Time Music Heritage Hall at the Historic Earle Theatre, all within walking distance of the museum. The Andy Griffith Museum is open 7 days a week. Closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Horrible! Practically nothing to see. What was there was done cheaply and poorly. Even at just $6, this place was a rip-off and complete waste of time.

This "museum" is under renovation and the price of admission was $6. It was worth $1. Old posters and clothes, all in reflective glass, mixed in with a strange Chang and Eng Siamese Twin exhibit. Had to walk between 3 buildings to see a handful...More

but still worth the cost of admission - as you were also able to view the Chang and Eng Bunker exhibit (the famous Siamese twins who settled in Mt. Airy after retiring from the circus).

We stopped in Mount Airey on our way home from Virginia. Having been before, I wanted to treat my husband to a malt and burger at Howard's soda shop. We decided to stretch our legs by visiting the museum. We were told that the museum...More

I am a die hard fan. My husband had been here two years ago and was excited to bring me. He was so disappointed at how little was out to see. First, charging $6.00 admission when the museum is under renovation and spread out all...More

Great visit here. Smaller than you might think. Yes, has Mayberry related stuff but also a lot of other Andy movie history. One plus is the Siamese Twin museum is next door and is an extraordinary visit in itself!

Wife and I were disappointed in the museum. I understand that they are/were doing renovations but we thought there would be more to it. It took us about 15 minutes to tour the facility.

I was so disappointed with the museum. It was tiny, with just a few artifacts scattered haphazardly in the hallways next to the bathrooms. However, they are undergoing renovations and there was no charge, so I really can't complain too much. And since my husband...More

A major renovation is going on and admission was free. They had a few cases in the lobby of the theatre and then you walk around back to see photos of the Siamese twins which has nothing to do with Andy Griffith. They should have...More

They did not know at the time of our visit when they would be done. I suggest you call the museum before your visit.
