We came back to Cataloochee this year after a half day of skiing and my son's first ski lesson in December 2013. We skied for 2 8 hour days this year. I am not an expert, only 8 days of skiing in 34 years, but this ski resort was a lot of fun for my sun and I. The weather... More

Went on New Years day and found some good imfo. First, skiing was very good early but got a bit mushy and thick as day went along. Yes...they had a snow cannon shooting right at the lift riders just before you got off it on the easy green hill. Other lifts and skiing was great in a.m. Tips: on the... More

My daughter attend the 1/2 day kids program and didn't want to leave when it was over. She had a blast while learning to snow board. We also went snow tubing one afternoon during our vacation. The employees seemed to really enjoy their job, they even had a snowball fight with some of the kids which was the highlight of... More

New Years day was my second time to Cataloochee. I am a beginner skier and have never been 'out west' but a newborn could tell you this place is badly organized. They were dealing with crowds, badly, by not placing enough staff at lifts, not explaining the rules to guests and not communicating with other staff members about policies and... More

It was good it got to crowded and the lines for the lifts were really slow, there were no control whatsoever in the lines so some people were doing what ever they wanted. Other than that it was fun the kids really enjoyed it and the snow (artificial) was good. The kids program is good and they had fun and... More

First things first, if you are accustomed to Vail, this is not going to meet your expectations. We had a wonderful time skiing but we are not expert skiers and wanted our kids to have an easy first time ski experience. We were there during "holiday" time and found that the rental and ticket lines went very fast if we... More

I was surprised at how well this facility is maintained and operated. The gear is decent quality. The lifts are in good shape. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The snow is good. They can get you in and on the slopes in pretty quick time if they're not SUPER busy.

The good first, very easy to get to and good rental equipment. Lift operators seemed nice enough and ski patrol seemed on there game as well. The weather has been way too warm so I'm not going to grade the runs with rain and 50+ temps for the last month they doing the best they can. The outside deck is... More

Always read through reviews. The ones I read here initially that are poor ratings from skiers that have been to BIG ski towns and felt that it wasn't comparable can really ruin a great experience for a beginner wanting to ski for their first time. I felt it was perfect, 2 hours from Gatlinburg where Ober had been closed and... More
