I'm not really going to call this a hike because it's only 1/3 of a mile, but it is impressive nonetheless. The well maintained gently sloping trail is 99% shaded by tall leafy trees. You can easily do this walk in 30 minutes in conjunction with a visit to the nearby Carolina Raptor Center or Latta Plantation. Stay on the trail as poison ivy plant is adjacent to it in several areas.

The kids would call it a nature walk, but the rest of us call it a nice hike. Not a long walk but it is nice through the woods.

We hiked a couple of trails here while visiting Charlotte. The trails are not intense and are very family oriented. Nice, quaint, trails with some beautiful views.

Beautiful area to visit, walk thru and enjoy the outdoors. The plantation home is really a work of beautiful construction and the tour guide was very informative. They have animals on the premises, turkeys, goats, chickens, mules the kids will love it. Beautiful grounds and so much in that area to enjoy

This place is a jewel of the Mecklenburg County Park system. This beautiful park has all the types of natural areas, nature center, trails, and water access that you look for in a park. The real bonus is all the other amenities that the parks partners offer. Horseback riding, horse events, historic plantation home tours, and the world class Carolina Raptor Center. A family can easily spend an entire day here and a have a great time.

We saw a sign for Buzzard Rock Overlook and being curious we decided to pull over and check it out. We learned there were other trails around the lake but this is the only one we took. It's a short walk and then the Buzzard Rock comes into view. You'll see a deck built around a rock shaded by the trees. It would have been a great place for a picnic lunch, just sitting there and taking in the view of Mountain Island Lake.

Very quick & easy walk with an overlook of a lake. It's not paved but it was flat. There are trails that link to this trail.

We stopped by for a walk late this summer and really enjoyed the trail. It seemed to be pretty well maintained and relatively easy. There were some families fishing below the overlook on the rocks (very dangerous for kids) and they were blasting music and the kids were screaming- but that's not the trails fault. Maybe a little more management from the park service would be beneficial. We planned to go back in fall to see the leaves and got so busy we missed it, will definitely head back in spring!
