A small parking lot is provided for users of the maritime forest hiking trail. The trailhead is located by the informational sign west of the parking lot. Please close the gate behind you. It is there to keep wild horses from entering into Corolla. There is a 1/3 mile accessible boardwalk as well as a 1.5 mile (roundtrip) primitive hiking trail. Horses and other wildlife can be observed while hiking the boardwalk and trail. There is a 2 hour time limit for the parking lot. Anyone wishing to leave a vehicle temporarily so they can tour the 4 wheel drive area or walk to the beach must use the county beach access parking lots less than 1 mile south on Highway 12. Free public parking is located at the Heritage Park area and County parking lot near the lighthouse.

The boardwalk was very well-maintained and stroller friendly. The parking is limited, but the entrance is within easy walking distances of many vacation rentals in the area. Take a break from the beach and go enjoy nature for a little while.

A nice walk to the beach. Flat, easy marked trail. Be aware there is no place to park. However, you can park at a church near by and walk a short distance.

There are two trails in this park... the boardwalk and a woods trail. Both led to nearly the same place but it is two different experiences... both fantastic... make sure you do both. We didnt not see any wild horses but saw tracks and poop...More

Loved this quiet tranquil hike. Leads out to the Sound. However, make SURE you are prepared for Mosquitoes. They will eat you alive on this Hike if not!

It's easy to miss the small parking lot at this trailhead but it's at the 90 degree bend in highway 12 (Ocean Trail) just north of Historic Corolla. The entire main trail is a completely accessible boardwalk with some interpretative signs and benches passing through...More

It was a nice easy walk (flat) but interesting. We took the 1.5 miles round trip and it took about a 1/2 hour. Then we walked the boardwalk not too far to the end and saw a horse on the sound

It's 2 walks in one. A boardwalk winds 0.3 miles through the maritime woodland out to the sound. There is an extra walk on a well-marked path over the pine needles to get out to the estuary. We were disappointed not to see any horses...More

This place is special! Parking is only for the estuary, but, often time spots are taken up by the beach goers. (Please park only where you are allowed - beach goers!) Once you are through the "secret" gateway to the amazing maritime forest area, your...More

Pets are allowed. It's a wonderful short nature walk on a wooden boardwalk that's only .3 miles out and .3 miles back. Some great things to look at on the way out to the beautiful sound. There is also a pine needle covered trail out...More
