We ranged from toddler to Grandpa and had a nice morning. We were able to go at an off time so it was easy to park and few folks on the climb. The gift shop rents back packs to carry little ones as strollers can't navigate the stairs. The weather was questionable, but we got our visit to the top... More

64 had a 6 tuple bypass 2001, I work out hard and was challenged by this place. It was not easy and I took a few rest stops but I made it. My GF much younger than I am, I raced her, lost, she texted me from the top, I beat her on the way down, I cheated :)

My husband and I visited Chimney Rock State Park to see Chimney Rock and Hickory Nut Falls. We visited on a Monday, which was nice because the park was not crowded. Because the elevator is broken, if you want to get to the top, you must hike up the almost 500 steps. There were lots of platforms along the way... More

Granted, it was Labor Day weekend, but the lack of personnel created some potentially dangerous situations. The winding approach road was backed up for a mile with the gate staff having to count heads in each car that pulled up (15 bucks for adults, although there's a 2 dollar discount because of the broken elevator). Once in the parking lot,... More

Our party of 4 visited the park on September 6, 2015. We would rate this experance a 10 out of 10. In spite of the Labor Day crowds the employees were engaging, knowledgable and friendly. The trains were spectacular and no trash to be seen anywhere. The bathrooms were very clean inspite of the number of visitors using them. Spectacular... More

I come to NC twice a year and usually we try to find something to do. And this time we decided to come here. The park overall is gorgeous and there is nothing like fresh air in your lungs. However, be careful with the rude staff and over bearing ones when you go in their gift shop. The last time... More

The views are really great as you ascend up the staircase. The elevator is out of order, so there is no option other than to take the stairs, which are a really significant and fairly strenuous hike.

As much as it pains me (love Chimney Rock of old) I just can't recommend a trip here at this time. I've been several times over the past year and the problems are numerous. I've experienced a closed elevator, out of service restrooms, unreasonable pricing, majority of trails still closed and very poor public notification of out of service issues.... More

This state park is terrific... that is, if you're in good enough shape to safely drive up the mountain to the parking lot and to hike up ten thousand steps if the elevator's out of service. So, to repeat, be careful driving up the twisty road to the upper parking lot. Motorcycles may be coming in the opposite direction, so... More

We went all the way to the top. Lovely views. The people selling hot dogs at the bottom are doing an amazing job. The state parks really are well kept. Staff friendly and the facilities good. Worth the climb.
