Loved our week long family vacation in the mountains! Rented a pontoon for a day on Lake Lure, which is an extremely clean lake. Hiked Chimney Rock and the falls.

Lots of steps. Not sure that I would want to do it during the heat of summer. We went on nice day in Nov and had jackets off half way up.

Kevin and Kim, So glad you got to experience the Park's "Ultimate StairMaster." You'll have to explore the Park's other trails during your next visit. Have a wonderful holiday and Happy New Year!

We visited in November of 2017 during absolutely beautiful clear weather. A word of warning, the elevator to the Chimney Rock top is out of order due to a landslide awhile back, but the admission price is reduced to compensate for this. There are over...More

Strenuous hike but well worth it. We have hiked to the top of chimney rock and to the bottom of the falls. So beautiful either way. Chimney Rock town is so quaint and hasn’t changed at all in 40+ years. Lake Lure is nearby and...More

Apparently there is normally an elevator up, but when we visited it wasn’t working. There are about 400 steps up the stairs, usually an area to rest and take in the view after each flight. The stairs are a mostly wooden with a few short...More

There's good news. Work is well underway to fix the Park's elevator. I know it seems like we've been saying that forever, but money has been allocated by the State for this project and crews have been hard at work to restore it to its...More

When we went, the elevator was not working and it was lightly raining. We took our time looking around - took about 45 minutes each way. Might have taken longer if there was a crowd!
