The Gantt Museum was nice. My expectation when we arrived would be the history of African Americas in Charlotte, NC. However there were three exhibits when we toured over the Thanksgiving holiday (Shaping the Vessel: Mascoll + Samuel; Nellie Ashford: Through My Eyes, and Quilts and Social Fabric: Heritage and Improvisation). I expected more however, the exhibits were informative.

This place is a gem. So glad I found it on TripAdvisor. Helped me add something interesting to a leisurely trip. There are two different levels and many rooms of artwork from different eras to explore. Definitely worth the small admittance fee.

I was lucky enough to see the wood turning exhibit, as well as two mixed media exhibits. Worth the time and effort to visit this museum. I truly enjoyed it.

I visited the site on a weekday and it was beautiful and peaceful. The gentleman running the gift shop was polite and helpful.

I was thrilled to have visited the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts and Culture, finding there, in permanent residence, the John and Vivian Hewitt Collection. This collection is made up of many renown African American artist: BEARDEN, Jacob LAWRENCE, Henry O. TANNER and others. Because it was not a planned visit and time was limited, it is my hope... The paintings shown are all by the same artist. They all look similar. The wooden vessels all looked similar. There is not much art to see here. They need more of a variety of artists and more to display.

We've gone here to the Martin Luther King Day celebration for several years, and are so impressed with the facility and the resource this is for our community. Great exhibits!

The Center had an exhibition of civil rights activits photos from the 1960s and also one on the Dance Theater of Harlem during my visit. The Center is easy to reach from location points across the city. Parking closest to the Center was expensive; although more reasonable rates were just a short walk away. The Center is nicely kept, with... More

This museum is an African American History book. It also is a fun place to visit and the souvenirs are reasonably priced.
