The Old Pressley Sapphire Mine was played out a long time ago but if you enjoy just digging in dirt then you might give it a go . . . that is if it's open. The "mine" is on residential property and the last time...More

We traveled from New England to do some mining in NC. We arrived early and spent the entire day there digging bucket after bucket from the tailing pile that they take down from the mine. You can tell that it has been processed but they...More

The best mine I've been to. The sapphires are beautiful, and such beautiful scenery. The owners are so determined to help you any way they can. I recommend this mine to anyone looking for a real mining expierence!

Although we visited during a very rainy period and had been told that the road was iffy, we had little difficulty reaching the mine and were lucky enough to meet George (and later, Brenda) on a day when they had time to spend with visitors....More

visited the Old Pressley Mine with my two sons, the oldest 22 and the youngest 16, and had hoped to have a better find than at Mason's sapphire mine near Franklin. I have been in actual open pit mines many years ago in Sapphire Valley,...More

We had a lot of fun and found some really cool sapphire's. This is not one of those fill the buckets with dirt and gems and pawn it off as gem mining. You get what you get. We really enjoyed our time there.

My family enjoyed the mine. The kids really love trying to find the largest stone and a few others that are just interesting to them. We will be back.

I actually got my necklace with the stone in November. My sister who lives in Connecticut only got her stone not the chain. I agree the place is great to visit and "mine" for stones just don't get your jewelry made there.
