Great ride up the mountain. They were doing the assault on the mountain (bicycles)the day we were there so it was crowded at the top but what a view.

Take the opportunity to visit. The vistas and overall views were magnificent. The museum and historic interpreters were very good. Visit the observation tower and see the grave of Rev. Elisha Mitchell who is intruded at the summit. The Park restaurant serves a good meal for a very good price. Try it you will be very happy.

The Mount Mitchell State Park is a great location to see some incredible panoramic views a short distance from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Enjoyed the easy walk and lookout above the carpark, helpful NPS staff and a good place to get a quick feed on the way back down at the Mt Mitchell restaurant. Worth a look and reasonable access... Mt Mitchell is the tallest peak east of the Mississippi River. The top has a viewing platform that provides 360 degree views, and ample signage to let you know what you are seeing. The top is a short, though a bit steep, hike from the parking lot. But it is worth the effort. Wow!

We learned that this is the highest peak East of the Mississippi and enjoyed the views, although it was overcast. We had lunch at the restaurant, which has a nice overlook. It's a small menu but choices were more than adequate, service was prompt and friendly, and the food was good.

A bit of a drive to get there, but the views are gorgeous and hiking trails are wonderful. At the lookout you have a fantastic 360 degree view of surrounding states. Well worth the trip.

Tough hike to the top. Only attempt if you have good running shoes or hiking boots and are comfortable hiking for 7-10 hours. The trail is decently maintained, but there are several sections that are rocky or filled with roots. There are bathrooms, water, and a snack shack at the top where you can rest and re-supply. Not the most... More

Tried to beat a storm front but lost. When I got to the mountain it was engulfed in clouds, rain and fog. The wind was blowing very strong, but I still hiked from the parking lot to the summit. I bet it is very beautiful when the sun is out. The park roads are good and so are the facilities.... More
