About
Have you ever looked a tiger in the eye? Felt the whole-body impact of lions roaring? Watched wolves romp through the woods? These and other once-in-a-lifetime experiences are possible at the Conservators' Center, a wildlife conservancy for more than 80 animals. An "oofing" at the Conservators' Center is an experience you'll have to feel to believe. It's the earth-shaking sound our lion prides make when they roar to one another. Our guides call to them on every tour, and you may have the opportunity to hear them from as close as 5 feet away! You'll also get up close and personal with tigers, leopards, wolves, lemurs, binturongs, and other exotic species. Tours, adoptions, memberships, and other donations support our work, so every visit from you helps us help them. Tours are held every weekend as well as some holidays. We have private experiences and field trips during the week. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED! PLEASE VISIT OUR WEBSITE TO GET A RESERVATION FOR YOUR TOUR!

- Melissa R2 contributionsEXCEPTIONALMy husband and I absolutely LOVED our twilight tour at the conservatory. The tour guide was obviously very passionate and well informed, making our evening adventure exceptional. We’ve already told several friends and family about this place and we can’t wait to return!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 October 2023
- Sandy C8 contributionsFun Animal ExperienceFabulous! Highly recommended. The animals were wonderful, and obviously very well taken care of. Everyone we met was very friendly! Our tour guide, TJ, was excellent – lots of great stories, and very interesting facts about the different species as well as the individual animals. I will definitely be coming back!Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 23 October 2023
- TrailBlazer3096261 contributionAmazing visitOur visit was amazing. The facility was very well run with good enclosures for the animals that kept them safe and entertained. Wendy, our guide was knowledgeable, personable and fun. She answered many questions from our group with information about each animal and about their species. We will visit again, with some of our group anxious to volunteer at the Park.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 October 2023
- Deanna S1 contributionFunWe had a great stroll through. We had a great tour guide. Loved seeing the animals. It was not a plan trip. Last minute find and we really enjoyed seeing everything. We sat and enjoyed our time until our time of touring.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 30 October 2023
- Maryann OBurlington, North Carolina33 contributionsUnique experience!Very unique experience. The center does an excellent job with their tours. Great communication in advance. Easy to complete paperwork. Tour starts in time and was excellent. See and learn a bit about these animals close up.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 5 November 2023
- anne m1 contributionWELL WORTH THE TRIP!"My husband and I brought our 3-year-old granddaughter to see the animals. While we found it very interesting and fascinating to see especially the big cats fairly close, we feel our granddaughter was probably a bit too young for the tour, but the staff is clearly committed and invested in providing the best for these animals and there is a lot of love in that place for animals that are not suited for return to wilderness! I would highly recommend visiting with slightly older children. This place is pretty special!"Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 20 November 2023
- Nancy S1 contributionFantastic experience!Loved seeing the well-cared for animals up close in their enclosures. Tour guides were friendly and very knowledgeable! So enjoyed hearing their personal experiences! Hands down - best part was hearing the lions roar and wolves howl! Amazing! We will be back!Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 November 2023
- Kirk THertford, North Carolina7 contributionsGreat cats.We had a great guide and tour. They obviously care about the animals. Even though many of them were older, they all looked healthy. Grat place to see a variety of cats, some wolves, and some foxes. We enjoyed our visit.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 December 2023
- julspan21 contributionsBack for my third time, not my last timeMegan and Nikki were wonderful guides on my 90 minute photo safari. They are very aware of their surroundings and how to keep their visitors safe while experiencing their magnificent animals up close. Unedited photos will get a lot of fencing/wooden structures that detract from the photos, but a good editing software and some practice are all you need for wonderful photos. (I used Luminar Neo for mine.) If it is your first time and you want to photograph both big and small cats, plan on a minimum of 90 minutes.Visited December 2023Travelled soloWritten 1 January 2024
- Tim G34 contributionsFamily outingThis is my 3rd time visiting the park. Each time has been a great experience with the last time being the best because the staff got the lions to oof. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating my 86 yr old mother with a golf cart to get around. As long as you pre-arrange the need for the cart, it worked out great. Great tour guide in Andrea who had great in depth knowledge of each of the animals. You can tell they care greatly about each of the animals and do their best to keep the animals safe and comfortable.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 14 January 2024

We wanted to see a zoo and came across this animal park. What an incredible place. The animals are so well taken care of. Our guide, Terri, was so informative . But was so interactive with us and the animals as well. They really know and care about the animals. We spent time at every habitat and only left when all the questions were answered I would definitely go back and highly recommend it.

We did the photography tour which I highly recommend. It was just my husband and I with the guide. I had a fancy camera, my husband had his cellphone. It was great. We got to get closer to the animals than a regular tour. We made a special reservation for a Tuesday evening so there was no one else there

Decided to visit the Center for my birthday. It was early in the day, and most of the animals were active. Our guide, Emery, did an awesome job! She made learning about the animals fun, and you could tell she really cared about them. I would highly recommend a visit!

It was just me, my husband and my walker for the 2pm tour. Our wonderful guide, Andrea took one look at us and got a golf cart. She took us on a wonderful tour of this fabulous facility. She introduced us to all the exotic and beautiful fur creatures living there. We had a very special afternoon with Andrea and these beautifully cared for animals. The work they do at the conservancy is so special, you will love this tour. Just GO!
Special shout out to our new BFF Andrea, thank you so much.

We took our older son, his wife, and our 3 grandsons to the Park for a tour after Thanksgiving. Our guide was very positive, and gave us lots of good information about the animals, their origins, and their habits. While we had been there before, it had been several years, and we enjoyed the visit, especially to see all of the big cats. Look forward to another visit in the future.

Cathy and Megan were our wonderful guides for the photo safari. It was a super-terrific experience that I will never forget. Our guides oofed the lions (made a specific sound lions make) and they oofed back! Our guides showed us how to take pictures of the animals without getting the fence in the photo. What a great experience! Seeing these beautiful animals safely was a highlight of my life!

We have a ton of pets at our house, from guinea pigs to chickens, and everything in-between! We've been members of the Asheboro Zoo for as long as I can remember. We've fostered animals dogs and even caught and found homes for feral cats. By every measure of the words, we are animal lovers!
With that said the folks at this park are animal lovers on another level! The care and consideration for the animals there is touching. Some volunteers have been there for over 20 years! They give every part of themselves to the animals and it shows. They are engaging with visitors, answering questions, showing patience and educating people. They do it all while showing the genuine care for the animals there. You can't help but feel the connection with the animals too.
And what can I say about the animals. They are simply amazing. The personalities are always on show and it didn't matter that it was 30 degrees out!
If you're looking to learn about exotic animals and have a casual, relaxing afternoon, do yourself and the other animal lovers in your family a favor and stop by. You won't regret it! And you might just be touched enough to help and adopt an animal yourself!!!

Sorry, I don’t know. I would call the center. If you have umbrellas you could still do the tour. It’s amazing

We have tickets for the 11.30 tour on Easter Sunday. Our next stop is Asheville. I would like to know 1) is there anyplace to eat that will be open for lunch that day- and 2) is there any must-see sights or stops to plan between Burlington and Asheville? thanks!
Written 2 April 2017
There are Cracker Barrels on I-40 along your route that will be open. Hotel restaurants will likely be open as well. Greensboro is about 30 minutes from Burlington, so hope that helps you find somewhere to eat.

What is the nearest hotel/motel to the Conservators Center?
Written 6 March 2016
The nearest 2 towns are Mebane and Burlington. They are right on I-85, and there are a string of the usual national motels. I do not know which is the closest, but none are very far away.
