I a shorter 4.5 mile loop on this trail, following two days of heavy rains. Not the best time to go. Much of the trail still had standing water and lots of mud. The portion from the parking lot was pretty rocky so the combination...More

We love this trail. Some of the best hiking in the area and the views are amazing. One a clear day you have 360 degree views.

This summer I only hiked a portion of the trail near the parkway with my son. I have previously hiked much of it. The whole trail can be challenging with the elevation changes, but it crosses some beautiful mountain balds through the Pisgah NF. If...More

Loved the open sky views, the path was well marked with a steady steep climb, the view was amazing. Liked the fact that there were no trees, only at the beginning, eyes open spaces that reminded me of home in England.

We always park in the parking lot for Black Balsam (at the end of the road connecting to the Blue Ridge Parkway). Then it's up to the top of Sam Knob for an amazing view and (hopefully) a picnic lunch. After the summit, we enjoy...More
