North Carolina's third oldest town, Beaufort lies on the coast bordering the southern tip of the Outer Banks. Originally a fishing village and port of safety dating from the late 1600's, Beaufort has been visited by patriots, privateers, merchants, and skilled craftsmen who built Bahamian and West Indian style homes and public buildings. On the Beaufort Historic Site, you can take advantage of the six professionally restored buildings, tour the Old Burying Grounds, and take a tour aboard a vintage English Double Decker Bus. Beaufort, NC truly is where history meets the sea.

To ladies were nice. Good information about the town. They were dressed in period dress which was nice. The trolley car ride would have been nice but did not want to spend $10 to see the site were I can walk it myself. Yes they would be able to give much more history than a handout but the cost was... I stopped in today to get a postcard while attending the Arts & Crafts Show & Sale on the historic site grounds. There is a guest book to sign, lots of local information, items to buy, and very friendly staff. I want to stop by again when I have more time.

Stopped in for a printed guide for the burial ground. The workers were pleasant and they had a nice gift shop. Very impressed with the printed materials,

Not too much to see or do here, but they do have a couple of free handouts that will guide you to must see places around the historic city.

While we did not take the tour ($5/adult) they do have several buildings that give one the feeling of old Beaufort. There is also a picnic table which folks can use to have lunch. Closes at 5 pm.

We picked up a guide and toured the outsides of the numerous historic buildings and houses by foot and car with the excellent map given to us at the center. It was very easy to follow and very interesting. Beaufort is super visitor friendly! Every tourist area should follow their lead. It was all free too.

The staff was extremely knowledgeable and took time to answer any questions. Also directed us to some of the free historical sites in the area.
