Gem mining fun

Our family enjoyed gem mining on the Sunday morning before we left town on our weekend visit. It was fun and we all found some pretty gems.

So, I've been to a few other gem mines in the area and we wanted to check this one out. We decided the night before we wanted to go to this one. We've always been able to just walk in when they first open without any issues. We didn't think that would be a problem here. I thought I saw... More

The first thing i will say is that the customer service was sub par, not as warm and welcoming as Foggy Gem Mining, however they did have a warm cool looking train that you can sit in while scavenging thru the rocks, we barely found good rocks in comparison to Foggy Gem that had amazing finds. They didnt explain the... More

We visited this gem shop July 2016. Clean and friendly people. The raw gems were nice and some were big. But I have many experience in this business. The raw stuff they had was not local as they claim. And my sister had two gem stones cut by them. There is NO way the stones that she received in the... More

If you enjoy looking at rocks or finding things (scavenger hunts, etc) then this is a fun little thing to do. We thought it might be boring and something for mainly kids to do (we do not have kids), but it actually turned out to be a lot of fun for my boyfriend and I. The place is super cute.... More

Our kids wanted to go gem mining and this was a convenient location near Sugar Mountain Resort. They had a great time! You select the size of bucket you want to go through - and then you head out to a caboose turned mining area. They found all kinds of gems (big ones too!) to take home and were elated!... More

Had planned on going tubing at Hawks Nest but they were sold out, so the contingency plan was to go mining and we stopped here at Sugar Creek Gem Mine. All of us enjoyed digging up the gems and we were very competitive about who dug up the 'biggest.'

We waited until 10:15 for them to open today with another family and they never opened. I tried to call but no answer and no hours of operation posted. Really disappointed all of us!

Visited here today and really enjoyed our visit. We shared a 2 gallon bucket for $32 and it was the perfect size for my two kids and husband. The kids found some big gems and were very pleased! The guy who works there was super friendly and humorous, explaining the kids' finds when we were done. We will definitely go... More

The young lady working here was polite and patient but the prices (for the pay-off/satisfaction) are pretty steep. We paid $32.95 for my two kids to work through a 2-gallon bucket of dirt that yielded nothing significant with regards to gems. They probably went through it in about 15 minutes. Going into it, you have to accept that it's a... More
