The Lenoir Preserve is a former mansion property with spectacular views of the Hudson River and the Palisades. It seems to have been donated to Yonkers without enough money for proper upkeep, since it's very overgrown.

A few years ago, it was even worse. They've removed a lot of undergrowth, built a butterfly garden and some vegetable gardens, and sometimes you'll see volunteers (?) working on these areas. There is a visitor center that's never been open when I was there. Parking is free and there are always available spaces.

Local animals you might see include deer and turkeys.

I wish this place was as good as it could be. An easier and more rewarding visit to a former mansion is next door at Untermyer.

BE CAREFUL--- We have walked this preserve for many years and loved it. Recently we went for our usual walk and found that the area around the mansion is under repair & modification.
This is OK but when we went for our walk we discovered that they are SPRAYING PESTICIDES/HERBICIDES on the grounds and are NOT marking the area with signs. We enjoyed the years of nibbling of fresh mulberries and other berries in season with our grandchildren and the Boy Scouts. This is totally unacceptable and those responsible should be held responsible for any injuries incurred by their acts.; 6/04/2017

Loved this place and cannot wait to go back in the spring or summer. Nice place for a stroll or bring your lunch and sit at a picnic table and enjoy the scenery.

Went here with my wife for a nature walk. We were very pleased with the overall experience. There is a nature lodge on site, but we arrived later in the day after they were closed. The trails are in good condition. The butterfly garden is designed with plants to attract butterflies of the season. We went in the early fall. If you are adventurous enough, and in good physical shape, you can take the trail down the hill, and get fairly close to the deer. There is an old mansion on site. Was curious to see the interior but it wasn’t open at that hour. Good amount of parking spaces on site. Looking forward to returning in Spring and Summer.

What I appreciate about this beautiful preserve is the sense that it is relatively untouched--just as nature should be. Maybe not everyone actually wants that...more for those who do to quietly enjoy.

We went to visit the preserve, on a Monday, knowing that the butterfly and hummingbird exhibit was closed, but the preserve itself was Not well maintained and was very dismal- no flowers or groomed bushes or trees to attract birds or small animals....it looked deserted and in need of serious attention!

Lenoir is a great place for families and couples, good for the kids too. The views of the Hudson are just fantastic, great place to come and relax and have some fun with the kids or just relax alone.

Nothing to see but bushes. They have a butterfly garden that's overgrown. Not one butterfly was to be seen. There is also construction going on. My daughter and I left in less than an hour
