Wonderful short hike! We went during icy snowy conditions, so with that in mind, crampons are recommended since it is an uphill hike. The view from the viewpoint and fire tower are both beautiful. The old abandoned hotel is also a treat to explore in.

Overlook Mountain is one of the best and easiest mountain hiking attractions located just outside of town in Woodstock which gives you a glorious view of the beautiful Hudson Valley in a relatively easy and short spurt...soooo beautiful in October when the foliage is in...More

Our go to hike with our dog up Overlook Mountain. What would make it much better for novices and seniors would be some kind of places to sit along the long walk from the parking lot to the abandoned hotel, and also from the hotel...More

Went for a walk today - we are a slow family. Made it to the hotel ruin in 45 min from parking lot, and to the fire tower (from parking lot) in 1 hour 15 min (including spending some time exploring the ruin). Took about...More

Read other reviewers to learn about the hike up Overlook and the breathtaking views of the Hudson Valley from the top. They've got younger knees than I have. Below Overlook, in the famous little town called Woodstock, I am perennially gobsmacked by this magnificent mountain....More

This is a really challenging but completely worth it hike. You could hear everyone on the 2.5 mile vertical incline whining about how hard it was, myself included. I am pretty in shape but needed a bunch of breaks while doing this hike. Bring lots...More

The views at the top make the hike up worth it! The old ruins are beautiful, they come out of nowhere. But you must continue up to the top of the fire tower. You will not be disappointed!

The trail always seems a little more challenging than I remember from previous trips. The trail is wide and easy if you go at you're own pace. The top has views and hotel ruins that are creepy and awesome. Beyond the ruins is a firepower...More

great hike takes about 2hs round trip. Fire tower is a nice spot, choose a non windy day if you get scared.

You can get to the trailhead by car, but you must walk up a 2.5 mile former carriage road to get to the actual summit of Overlook Mountain
