Read other reviewers to learn about the hike up Overlook and the breathtaking views of the Hudson Valley from the top. They've got younger knees than I have. Below Overlook, in the famous little town called Woodstock, I am perennially gobsmacked by this magnificent mountain....More

This is a really challenging but completely worth it hike. You could hear everyone on the 2.5 mile vertical incline whining about how hard it was, myself included. I am pretty in shape but needed a bunch of breaks while doing this hike. Bring lots...More

The views at the top make the hike up worth it! The old ruins are beautiful, they come out of nowhere. But you must continue up to the top of the fire tower. You will not be disappointed!

The trail always seems a little more challenging than I remember from previous trips. The trail is wide and easy if you go at you're own pace. The top has views and hotel ruins that are creepy and awesome. Beyond the ruins is a firepower...More

Easy hike to the abandoned hotel and then to the firetower. Even our 5 years old was able to make it quite quickly despite significant altitude gain (although he got tired and fell asleep as soon as he got back into the car :) )....More

It is worth the hard work to the top. It's much busier now than it used to be, so I would go off season. The views are stunning!

I have to agree with the folks who said you need to be in moderately good shape to do this hike. The overall hike is about 5 miles. The ascent is steep and gains over 1400 feet in 3 miles up, although the trail is...More

NOT I repeat NOT for the faint of heart! If you are an average, below average or novice hiker this isn't easy. An incline all the way up with literally no flat breaks and coming down is no picnic either, however the ruins are amazing...More

You can get to the trailhead by car, but you must walk up a 2.5 mile former carriage road to get to the actual summit of Overlook Mountain

There is always people, but if it's crowded is hard to speculate. Maybe during the week while kids are in school before school is out would be good time to go. Once school is out the tourists come from all over. Camping... More

Well we took a car up to the starting point of the hike and it was pretty windy and steep, and it may have been 2.5-3 miles from flat ground... probably further from Woodstock. Seems pretty difficult to bike, and definitely... More
