The mission of the West Point Museum is to collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret historically significant artifacts pertaining to the United States Military Academy, United States Army and the Profession of Arms. The Museum supplements cadet academic, cultural and military instruction and provides educational programs and services for military and civilian personnel. As a public institution, the museum stimulates interest in the United States Military Academy, the United States Army and the Military profession. In addition to the main museum building in Olmsted Hall, the Museum also administers Fort Putnam which it operates seasonally. The Museum also maintains part of its collection on display on Post with the cannon collection on Trophy Point, The superintendant portraits in the Cadet Mess and artwork in many of the academic and administrative buildings. All visitors to the United States Military Academy are encouraged to tour the Museum to view what is considered to be the oldest and largest diversified public collection of miltaria in the Western Hemisphere. The Museum does not require ID to visit. ID for everyone over 16 will be needed if you plan to tour the Academy grounds. Please visit the West Point Garrision webpage for further visitor information.

The West Point Museum is a must see if you go to West Point. It's a quick easy stop right on the campus and if you like anything to do with the military then you will love this place. My younger son always asks to go when he has a game there and is upset when they are closed after... More

About 25 years ago, a family member visited this museum and told me it was a must. It's taken me awhile, but I found my way there. (That's the one drawback, it's hours didn't fit this travellers schedule-I've tried getting to it numerous times through the years and found it closed for various reasons). Persistence pays off and as a... More

PLEASE! Do not visit after taking a bus tour. You will regret you did not have enough time to go through the museum. If you must do both, get the earliest bus tour you can so you can enjoy the museum. The construction currently going on for the welcome center does not affect the museum at all.

The museum is small but very nice and it will take you through the history, but do combine it with the tour for a full experience

Filled with many military items including weapons and uniforms. The floor with large machines was of particular interest to us. They are something you never really are able to see that close. The visitors center is undergoing a renovation and is not open to the public at this time.

Excellent facility for a walk through history of our first military academy & fortress. Great look at fort life, military artifacts, and strategic importance. Good for any day of the week.

The tour is OK, but really very limited. Shows very little and spends most of the time talking. The museum is OK, but very small and seems kind of outdated. Loved the quaint town, good spots for lunch.

I went to the West Point Museum as part of a long-weekend road trip with my teenage sons (14 and 18) and my husband. The guys were enthralled with the array of weaponry on display; I thought the uniforms and the history discussed were more interesting. We all enjoyed it, and you should block out at least an hour for... More

If you are a history buff and/or into military history this is an excellent place to visit. 4 floors of exhibits to view. Great stories, heavy artillery examples, paintings, etc. There is no admission fee. One note--the USMA visitor center where this is located is going through renovations so be careful with construction.
