Visited the cellar door today. We sampled some wines. We chose the rose we tasted to have with our platter for two for lunch. The platter was superb with lovely fresh cheeses, meat, olives, bread all sourced locally. House made condiments and crackers. Great service and delicious food and wines. In town so an easy walk and no worries on driving. Recommend this place.

A most enjoyable lunch as part of the mt barker graze. Welcoming friendly staff that showcased the local wines The cab merlot was matched with very tasty pulled beef tacos. Food was delicious, fresh and tasty. Located on the highway this winery is certainly well worth a visit when visiting Mt Barker.

A wonderfully warm welcome from Joel who shared the history of Plantagenet before our wine tasting. Truly knowledgeable!

The region and winery are best known for Riesling and we weren't disappointed - three great rieslings on offer. My favourite was the 2022 Three Lions Riesling with a delicious passionfruit taste. My husband loved the 2021 Wyjup Collection Riesling.

We also tasted the 2018 Plantagenet Lancaster Shiraz and 2018 Wyjup Collection Shiraz - both great wines.

The Plantagenet winery and restaurant is in the centre of town, and not out among the vineyards as you might expect. The sales attendant told us this was because the winery draws its grapes from all over the Mt Barker district, to maximise the quality of its fruit. Climatic/soil conditions that are perfect for one grape type may be less than ideal for another variety. Our host was very knowledgeable and took us through their full list of tasting wines. It was a very enjoyable afternoon and we left with a good supply. .

Stopped in for lunch and it was quite busy. Sat outside and was lovely, even though it was a hot day. Great little playground for kids. Did tastings while they cooked our meal-very decent sized pizza & salad. Very friendly staff.

We visited Plantagenet winery and there were quite a few people wine tasting. The Lady (I presume, the owner), asked us to be seated as we indicated that we wanted to not only partake in the wine tasting but also lunch. She was apologetic for the wait and suggested we look at the menu. She then directed us to the counter for wine tasting. The staff is so courteous and the smoked chicken pizza was scrumptious! The lady even offered us free beverages for the wait and apologized again. It was not that long a wait but after driving all those hour from Perth, it was a lovely experience to be treated so well. We highly recommend this place for the wines and lunch.

Once again in Albany and wishing to do something a little different for lunch with my Aunt, headed off to Mt Barker. Every time I drive through on the way to Albany, I resolve that I would go there for lunch. It looks inviting with its grassy area and small playground for kids. The big solid door looks quite medieval and stepping in found us in a reception area, doubled up as an overflow of the eating area. It was pleasant with the stone walls and wooden beams on the ceiling. The service was a bit haphazard, no one really greeted us but we managed. The menu was simple, (bread heavy) offering pizzas, toasties and garlic bread. The items were noted as GF, V with options available. Also befitting a winery, most items recommended wines to accommodate. Sadly, we couldn't partake, we were hungry, not thirsty.
The children's menu had two items. While my Aunt had the Turkish Toastie, I ordered the Smoked Salmon and Avocado Salad. It wasn't too long before the meal arrived (20 mins), may have seemed longer as the table nearest to us, was obviously a Christmas Function for workers who were involved in animal husbandry. Hearing certain details about the process put us off a little bit, but being country folk, we had a bit of a (quiet) giggle while waiting. My Aunt said her toastie (assume it was turkish bread being used, hence the name) was very good, the filling generous and tasty. It was evenly cooked and not too chewy for her. I expected my salad to have cold smoked salmon (one of my favourites) but it was a fillet that had been hot smoked, (cured before being smoked). No matter, it was very, very generous, the same of the other ingredients, especially the avocado and pine nuts. The dukkah was piquant and the mesclun salad leaves were clean and fresh. I didn't leave a scrap left. Healthy and satisfied, we left to return to Albany. Just a note: be aware that parking is a bit tight in some areas of the car park.
