- Sue R4 contributionsBeautiful beach and you can wade out to the reef to snorkle. If you want to snorkle from the beach by just walking out into the ocean, no boat needed, this is a good option. It is a beautiful beach, it was being enjoyed by a few people but not crowded or noisy. The carpark has 2 options ( beach or drift) we went drift. carpark also has toilets. Just walk to the left a bit along the sand before getting in the sea. You will drift along twards the point, just exit before the point as that section is dangerous. We saw corals and a variety of fish. There is a lovely shallow sandy section also to just hang out in which has fish in the shallows. Be aware there is no shade and Byo food and drinks.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 23 March 2024
- FREDW58Brisbane Region, Australia11 contributionsStinger suit required.Hired Car and drove to Yardie Creek and stopped at Turquoise Bay for snorkelling on way back in the Drift area. Was great until stung by an Irukandji jelly fish and after a 3/4 hour dash to the hospital spent three hours having pain killers administered. All good now but not fun at all.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 March 2024
- Rochelle FRandolph, New Jersey1,162 contributionsBest beach in the areaHands down the best beach in the area - the sandy is powder white and the water is clear, clean and turquoise. We visited many of the beaches up and down this coast and this was our favorite. We kept returning here during our stay. To note, there is very little shade here (which is typical of Australian beaches in general). It was never crowded, the water was nice and warm. Did not see many fish in the drift but the beach is fabulous. I see why it has won Best Beach award. I would rate it one of my top 10 worldwideVisited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 April 2024
- garethsarahjamesSydney, Australia82 contributionsStunning bay, excellent snorkellingAwesome experience. Just walk in from the beach to snorkel with all the tropical fish you can imagine plus rays, black tipped reef sharks also spotted. Drifting with the current. The most spectacular Turquiose water ever. One side for snorkelling and the other side of the point a calm bay for swimming & playing in the water. Great for kids,Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 27 April 2024
- BradHong Kong, China1,78,187 contributionsBeautiful beach and gorgeous waterThere are quite a few beach stops you can make along Yardie Creek Road along the Ningaloo Coastline including Turquoise Bay, which according to many publications is one of the most beautiful beaches in Western Australia. We stopped here during our recent stay in Exmouth and found the beach at Turquoise Bay mighty impressive. Great sand for walking and relaxing. The water is a lovely turquoise colour, swimming and snorkelling conditions looked great although we just enjoyed our time on the beach this time around. Quite a few tempting beach stops along the Ningaloo Coastline, this one is well worth stopping to check out or better yet, stick around and enjoy for a few hours.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 September 2024

We traveled from Exmouth to visit turquoise bay. It’s about a 40min trip by car which sees you travelling through the National park. There is a $15 entry for the park unless you have an all park pass. The car park was easy to get to and there are toilets down there as you arrive. The beach was immaculate however we went on a slightly stormy day so as you could imagine the water was a little cloudy and it started to rain. It’s definitely worth the visit however there isn’t anything else there so would recommend taking food and drinks with you and head down on a sunny day if you plan on staying on the beach. I can imagine the view would have been even more stunning.

One of the better places to swim/snorkel along the reef.
Parking is a real premium, no where near enough spaces for the number of visitors who would like to visit. A easy walk to the beach for swimming and/or snorkeling.
The water is great for snorkeling, not a lot of side current nor waves and/or swell. Easy to stay around coral/rock outcrops to see the marine life.
A lot of marine life, spotted a good size turtle as well as 100's of fish species.

We went to Turquoise Bay twice in December 2019. It's a stunning, quiet beach with a nice bit of reef to explore.
There are two parts to this beach-the drift loop and the bay loop.
The drift loop allows you to be carried by the current whereas the bay loop is much more calm.
I suggest visiting the bay loop if you want a relaxing time in the sea.
The water itself was very clear and warm.
Be aware there are potentially dangerous currents if you do the drift snorkelling- you need to exit the sea in a particular place to avoid being swept out to sea. Be sure to read the information boards near to the car park to see the safety guidance.
It's possible to rent good quality snorkelling gear from the Milyering Visitor Centre which you pass on the way to Turquoise Bay if you don't have your own.
I think this is a must do visit if you're in Exmouth.

When you’re planning a trip to Exmouth everyone says “You have to visit Turquoise Bay.” And they’re right.
There’s a $15 entry fee to get into the park ($25 for a 5 day pass) and it’s worth every cent.
Words cannot capture how spectacular the beach is. Long stretches of white sand and crystal blue water. We were there in January 2021 and the water was warm and absolutely full of fish swimming around your feet.
The water is incredibly clear and calm. The shallow slope of the coast combined with the flat water means even non-confident swimmers can enjoy it.
But the best advice I can give is to take snorkel gear. If you don’t have any there is a place in Exmouth where you can hire it at very reasonable rates. But if you have it, you’ll have an experience at the beach only a handful of people can match.

It’s a 40 minute drive to get here from town, and you need to pay $15 to get into the park (you can get a 5 day pass for $25), but well worth it. The snorkeling is amazing with loads of fish, coral and even some turtles.
You can do the drift, or if you have kids go around the other side where it is very calm.
Make sure you bring supplies (food, drink) as there is nothing there (though there are toilets). Suggest if you can you bring something for shelter from the sun.

Best beach for snorkeling. The water is indeed turquoise. So many fishes around small bommies not far from the beach that you can easily swim to. Good for kids. We saw a reef shark which is pretty cool. Get there early as even in winter time it’s very popular and parking gets really tight.

I finally got to visit the famous Turquoise Bay and it did not disappoint. Parking was a bit of an issue as we were there during the July school holidays but after a bit of luck, we found something. Turquoise Bay is where you can snorkel with the drift. The water was perfect and there was an abundant of marine life just metres from the beach. I had fish coming up to me when I was standing in the water ankle deep!
A perfect place to park yourself for the day and enjoy the serenity of your surroundings. Bring a sun tent if you can. Get up occasionally for a snorkel when you're warm.
You have to pay $15 to get into the Cape Range National Park which is where Turquoise Bay is situated. But it is totally worth it.

The beach is world class. Beautiful aquamarine water with reef close to shore that you can drift snorkel on. It is in a remote location so you are not inundated by crowds. It is part of the Cape Range national park so there is a fee attached to enter the park, but it is not very much. Well worth a visit

The aerial photos of the bay on a windless cloudless day are great, the $25 park entry fee isn’t really that expensive either if more than one individual in the vehicle. The underwater viewing of the typically brown coral/rock is also ok. If you are viewing the beach and water from ground level I guess it looks like anywhere else on the coast...a beach. Naturally to attract tourists an aerial shot is the key.

Can we stay in our caravan gor a week in Turquoise Bay in Sept 2020?
Written 20 July 2020
Bookings are heavy, there were no spots in Ningaloo 2wks ago. Contact the Ningaloo visitors centre in Mylering. It's not far from town for day trips anyway

We’re staying in Coral Bay in August - is it possible to drive direct to Turquoise Bay, or will we have to go via Exmouth?

Hi! We'll be visiting Turquoise Bay toward the end of July and will reach late in the day.
Is it safe to start snorkelling around 4PM? Also, what are our chances of seeing turtles during this period? Thanks!
Written 1 July 2019
Snorkelling at any time of the day at Turquoise Bay is safe as long as you are aware of the tidal movement. Try to avoid snorkelling late on an outgoing tide as water will flush out of the lagoon.

Did you hire your fins and snorkel in Exmouth or bring with you from your home town. If you hired them can you tell me where to go please. Also did you do a tour to the Bay, or drive yourself and do what the others did as far as the DRIFT is concerned? Thanks
Written 7 August 2018
Hi everyone has pretty much answered your original question on the stacks themselves definitely best place to snorkel - I also found going just before they say best time to go (high tide) even better - as it is before the tide and the strong drift and waves comes in and easier with younger children to slowly swim across the bay - found it easier with the kids just be careful not to walk on anything as that is why they tell you high tide so less chance of stepping on things - go straight into swim mode to protect the reef. Was teaching my kids from the start to respect the reef :-)

We are thinking of going in June(early June) to visit this lovely beach. Is this a good month to visit? Weather-wise and water temp-wise? Thank you for any insight. :)

G'day
I believe this is a great time to visit. The sharks will be around. The nights might be chilly but it will still be warm during the day. Water will be 26+.

We are flying to Exmouth tomorrow and would like to go to Turquoise Bay for the day. Is there public transport or shuttle bus?
Written 11 September 2017
Hy, sorry for the delay: no public transport, but there's shuttle bus from some tour operator. You can ask at the Exmouth Visitor Center.
Bye

Hi there,
My husband and are are a fit couple who do an ocean swim every day here where we live on the Gold Coast.(I also dive) I am 60 and he is 67.Are we too old for your tour? We are coming to see my son who lives in Perth over Easter. We are going up to Ningaloo after that. We want to swim with the whale sharks.
cheers,
Marg Flanagan

Definitely not too old ....I've just returned and I'm 62 and also a scuba diver! However, due to a recent on going injury I'm definitely not as fit as I have been in the past ....I did find it difficult to keep up ....we went with Ningaloo Blue and Connor would be in the dingy ready to tow me back to the boat as soon as I got too tired.....I still managed to get some good photos and observe this magnificent shark ....we saw several sharks and only one in my option swan slowly the others seemed to be a bit faster ....hope this helps :-)

Are there still whalesharks early November. And what about the flies? Is that really bad in November? We did not see them in the east coast last Year.
Written 9 August 2015
Whale shark season is said to end in August, although sightings occur past that point. You may find tours hard to come by after August as the official season has ended. Flies tend to be worse as you near summer. Expect more from October onwards.
