About
Jewel Cave is the largest show cave in Western Australia, with three immense chambers. Visitors are immediately awed by the breathtaking magnitude of the first chamber, also home to one of the longest straw stalactites found in any tourist cave in Australia. Towering crystal formations, growing for thousands of years, delicate, intricate decorations suspended like vines across the ceiling. Visitors will hear stories of the 'Tasmanian Tiger' fossils found here and remnants of animals that perished in the darkness after falling into the cave thousands of years ago. After exiting the cave, visitors can take a self-guided walk through the towering karri forest above, passing by the natural entrance to the cave, a small vertical shaft in the forest floor through which the cave was first entered.

We had a great tour. Sean our tour guide was absolutely amazing. My 20 month old was crying becuase he wanted to walk and Sean told us that down the bottom of the cave there was an opportunity for him to walk where there was less stairs and even used his torch to distract him. Sean also answered all the questions from my two nephews.

This cave is a true Jewel! Not only is it mesmerisingly beautiful, but the guides will give you so much interesting information that you'll be able to imagine what itmust have been like millions of years ago.
The tours are worth your time and the few steps you have to climb up and down. It is an excellent activity for any age.
The lighting is so tastefully placed that your pictures will look fantastic. Highly recommend it!

We arrived 10 mins late for the 9.30am tour and were prepared to wait for the 10.30am but the very friendly staff said we could just start the tour then. We didn't get her name (Sorry 😔) but a lovely lady took us on a personal tour. So interesting and the cave made you realise how small we all are! The guide was really knowledgeable and full of info.
Would definitely recommend a visit here. Just amazing and lively friendly staff - thanks everyone 😊

Luckily we went on a very quiet day and was able to book the tour at the last minute, our guide was Chuck and he was awesome and informative and was very passionate to share the beauty of this cave. The cave is so big and beautiful, it is mind blowing. We were lucky to get a semi private tour as apparently can get very busy with maximum of 40 people every half hour in peak seasons. It's well worth a visit!!

My wife and I booked an online tour of Jewel Caves on our trip to Margaret River this past weekend. The booking was easy and our tickets awaited us on arrival at the caves. The tour was conducted by Steve, who was very informative and interesting. On conclusion of the tour we enjoyed a coffee in the cafe.

I was surprised by just how big and spectacular this cave was. I have gone into other caves before and immediately a little claustrophobic, but with the size of this one I didn't get that feeling. There were so many different formation, and the guide (Luke) was great at pointing them out and explaining how they formed. You do go 40 meters underground, hence have to come up. I didn't find coming up the stairs too bad, but I could see if someone has mobility or fitness issues it could be a challenge, but you can come up at your own pace. The main downside is the size of the tour group, which can impact viewing and ability to hear the guide.

A beautiful and magnificent display of natural formations that have been growing for around a million years. Jewel cave is just a wonderland, impressive and spectacular. Like many caves it is advisable to have a jacket as it can be several degrees cool inside. Watch out for the noggan wacker rocks, that is to say watch your head as you move through the sometimes lower parts of the cave. Although there are a lot of stairs these are broken up into smaller cases making the descent and ascent much easier.

Jewel cave is as it's name suggests - a beautiful, completely crystal-lined series of "rooms" which are stunningly beautiful. You can only visit on a guided tour which takes an hour. We found our guide, Richard, to be wonderfully passionate about caves, very knowledgeable and with an easy manner of imparting his knowledge so that everyone caught his enthusiasm. There are 250 steps down to the floor of the cave (and up again!), so bear this in mind if you have mobility difficulties.

Each time we come down to the Margarete River Region we go and visit the Jewel Cave. The story how the cave was found and the amazing and stunning cave itself is reason enough to return each time! The guides are always knowledgeable and the staff is super friendly.
The Jewel Cave is a big part of my husbands family as his Grandfather was Cliff Spackman and found the cave. For him it’s like visiting his Grandad and it fills all of us with pride to hear his stories are passed on to so many people each day.
All that aside, I have visited a lot of caves in Europe prior to moving to Australia and the Jewel Cave is one of the most impressive and beautiful caves you will find! An absolute MUST SEE!

Wow what a beautiful cave and beautifully pres byented by our guide Justine. An easily paced your should appeal to most people and so worth the effort, going down on a warm day of was very pleasant to enjoy the coolness of the cave. Amazing stalagmites and stalactites and sooo deep, fantastically presented throughout.

There were a couple of young children when we went. They became a bit restless. At one stage, everyone is asked to be quiet while they turn the lights off and the kids kept flashing their lights and giggling during that time. It’s only an hour tour, I guess it depends on the child. Probably not a lot of fun for them.

Is this tour suitable for pregnant lady?
Written 25 November 2018
Sorry for my late reply. If you are in say the first 5 months of pregnancy I think you would be fine. Its not too exhausting so just take your time and if in doubt ask them there and they will help.

Hi would this cave be suitable for elderly? We r thinking of going in Aug. No mobility issues but previously had heart surgery n typically needs some breaks when climbing long flights of stairs. I heard of mammoth but seems like it also has steep steps though fewer unless we want to be confined to the wheelchair friendly area.

Hello juzonesin,
Thank you for your enquiry. Jewel Cave includes 250 steps from top to bottom, it is quite accessible because there are handrails all the way. There are also 6 stopping points during your 1 hour guided tour from which you can catch your breath and admire the stunning beauty of the cave.
However, if you are concerned about the heart condition of the elderly member of your group, I suggest Mammoth Cave. It's an amazing cave and it is self-guided. There are still quite a few steps, but you can take as long as you like to make your way through the massive chambers whilst learning about the extinct animal bones found in the cave, admire the massive cathedral like chambers and marvel over some beautiful crystal formations.
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any further queries.
We look forward to welcoming you to Your Margaret River Region.

Hi I want to take my family to the cave but I was wondering can you take a stroller in? I’ve got a 10 month old child so I don’t really want to carry her around the whole time if I can help it
Written 1 January 2018
Hi, Apologies for the delay I only just saw your question. There are lots of steps in the Jewel cave so a stroller is not very practical. On the other hand there are many stops when you could put your toddler down - making sure he/she is safe eg taking a harness. Hope this helps.

my mum is a bit unsteady on her feet is the cave tour suitable? is there seating
Written 13 July 2017
Not suitable if unsteady on feet due to steps although there is handrails. No seating. Tour takes 55 mins I think. I would speak to staff first.

Hi,
how much cost to visit this cave?
And what is a time duration for it and how much it will take normally to see whole cave?
Thanks

Hi, my wife and I visited the Jewel Cave last August. Its well worth it. We bought a ticket that included other attractions such as the Cape Leeuwin light house in an all-inclusive package. I cant remember the cost but we thought it not very expensive and great value. The cave trip runs every hour and takes about an hour so you need to allow up to 2 hours for the whole thing. The visitor centre includes a small exhibition, cafe and shop so you can spend any waiting time without being bored. The cave trip involves many steps so you need clothing suitable for outdoor walking, but not rock-climbing. Id recommend the light house visit in combination which adds up to a good day trip.

Hi,
Where do I get the tickets for both the Jewel cave tour and the light house?
Written 2 December 2016
We bought our tickets at each venue. It was quite busy, and both tours were well-patronised, even though we were not travelling in the tourist season, so do make sure of the times of tours and get there in plenty of time. The Tourist Office in Augusta was very helpful.

Hi ,
Good day to you .
Can we ( 4 adults ) visit the cave by ourself ?
We are not sure that what time we will reach at the cave ? The arriving time is uncertain.
Is that possible we book the guide upon our arrival ?
What time is the cave closed ?
Thank you
Regards ,
Brandon

You can just turn up at any time when it is open (see the other post). They have a number of young geologists who guide tours regularly so you may wait a short time till the next tour but they have a nice cafe to wait in.

My daughter has Ross river virus and can get very tired and aching muscles. Is there just as many steps to exit the cave as there is to enter. My concern is she would get down but struggle to step back up
Written 28 September 2016
the best cave for you is likely to be Mammoth Cave as that is the most open of all the caves. It is also self-guided so you can take your time and not worry about keeping up with a guided tour. If a wheel chair is required, Mammoth is the only cave that has some wheelchair access - approx 20% of the cave is wheelchair accessible.
Written 29 September 2016
I am a caver and depending on your comfort level Jewel and Lake caves are good although access to Lake is via a steep stairway.
Mammoth is interesting and worth a visit. If your time is restricted l would go to Jewel.
