Pontevedra has so many monuments, squares, restaurants and shops that it would take several days to explore. He is one of the best preserved historical centers in all of Galicia. Listed as a Historic-Artistic Monument, the building is undoubtedly a stone testament to the medieval splendor that the city has lived through. Here the cliché prevails that the best way to discover a place is to wander through its streets, squares and most emblematic sites, to fully immerse yourself not only in its culture but also in its history. We recommend staying in a centrally located hotel and going out to one of the many places for breakfast or dinner each day, especially when the weather is nice. Don't forget to visit the Central Market where you can see, taste and buy all Galician products.

This is a very nice area, worth a stroll after the Camino walk.
There are many nice churches and areas to relax and it's all within very reasonable walking distance

The Camino brought me here, but Pontevedra can stand on its own merits. If you enjoy history, architecture, food, shopping, and walking, then you will love this little bit of heaven in Galicia. The old town is perfect for exploring, and I could have easily spent another day taking in the many sights. The colorful banners strung from the buildings are in honor of the Jubilee Holy Year, extended through 2022. Locals, tourists, pilgrims - I felt a real energy here that I loved.

Got a day to myself to explore the old town and loved it... very nice to walk because they have closed many streets for only people to walk in, people from all ages with walking diffuculties can even come visit the hundreds of shops, little churches, big churches, ice cream and coffee shops, restaurants, tapa bars and much more!

I didn't find much in this town. Half of the stores were empty. Grimy overall.
The streets felt repetitious as we walked around. We saw the church with a bagpiper but still not worth the visit.

The historic center is one of the most beautiful and best preserved in Galicia. Its historic complex is magical, consists of a cluster of narrow streets. There are many squares and interesting churches. Among them is Plaza de la Herrería, a place much frequented by the people of Pontevedra. This plaza, surrounded by gardens, is located in front of the San Francisco Monastery. In the heart of the city there are also Plaza de la Peregrina and Plaza de la Verdura. In Pontevedra, these are traditional places, always full of people of all ages. The historic center it is also the ruins of the former Santo Domingo monastery, the Basilica de Santa Maria , the Peregrina Church and picturesque streets , among many other interesting things. Of course, in addition to all the monuments, the area is full of bars and restaurants where you can enjoy excellent cuisine. Walking through the quiet streets of the well-kept historic center is very pleasant.

The church, shaped like a shell rather than a cross, has provided a place to wash up and pray before entering the old city of Pontevedra.

This was the last town of our ten day trip. It’s small streets for pedestrians only led from one small gem to the next. Two beautiful churches stand around a square where people came out in the evening at 9:00 pm to eat, to stroll and to enjoy this very special place.
Lunch can be found until 2 but places close between 3 and 7-8 pm.
