We wanted to walk up towards Ana Capri but did not appreciate what we were in for with the Phoenician Steps. It was a major accomplishment for me considering my general level of fitness. It probably took us an hour - since we didn't know what we had started it was good to find out after it was 900~ steps.... More

Scala Fenicia (The Phoenician Steps) is a path made by a steep public stairway connecting the town of Capri with the town Anacapri. Saying goes it was made by the Greeks, despite the name Fenicia (Phoenicians). It is fairly steep and I suggest you to make it down rather than upwards. It gives you a spectacular view all the way.... More

I always choose footpaths & stairs over buses or other motorized vehicles and this time it was no different. The Phoenician Steps start right from the main road "Via Marina Grande" and intersect the road again higher up, before reaching Villa San Michele. I would recommend a decent condition as you have to walk for 1.6 kms with a 280... More

After your visit in Anacapri you have to take the Phoenician steps down to Mariana Grande or Capri Town again. The stairs doesn't take you longer than 40 minutes and the view is spectacular. It's not a attraction for ones with weak knees.

Not easy to go down but absolutely stunning. The views from nearly every spot are marvellous. Good walking shoes are a must.

We decided to take the Phoenician steps on our way back from Anacapri to Capri, instead of taking the packed buses. What a fantastic experience this was!! The views from the steps of Marina Grande and Capri are absolutely stunning. Note though, the climb down is quite steep and there are several steps one needs to climb down! We didn't... More

We took the bus from Capri to Anacapri and it was fine but you had to wait and you were packed in like sardines. We were taking pictures at the top of the Phoenician Steps and decided to walk down them (mostly for bragging rights). We met a guy who had just reached the top climbing up and it had... More

This stairway was my favorite part of Capri. Gets you from the harbor to Anacapri in about 30 min. No problem for me or my husband going up or down, but we are in our 30s and fit. I wouldn't recommend this for people with hip or knee problems. The views were beautiful and we had the steps to ourselves!

Probably better to do the almost 1000 steps from Anacapri to Marina Grande than the other way round unless you are very fit. How did the locals manage 100 years ago?! I liked this walk very much (30-40 minutes) and it gave me a good feel what life must have been like 100 years ago. Don't just bus it, walk... More
