Amazing place, tour not so much
The place is an amazing blend of old and new. It's an old quarry with the ruins of a monastery above it. The monastery church is now the modern shop and tasting room with the wine cellars in the tunnels beneath. The cloisters outside are surrounded by a modern bar and an events area. The tour however was a farce. The tour guide just gathered everyone waiting at the shop without checking for tickets. We then realised that it was all in French so we spent the first part running back and forth to the busy shop trying to get the text with the tour in English. Because of this the tour guide chose to completely ignore us, all we got out of him was the wine tasting, he even forgot to give us the macaron he gave everyone else, we had to ask for it. Apart from not being able to understand much, reading a text while moving around and trying to observe your surroundings is not that easy, the tour in itself is not that great. All you get to see is a small area of the underground tunnels without anything of interest in it.. The best part was the tasting, but again we had to just sit there and listen to the guide making small talk with everyone else in French. Tour aside we enjoyed the place as much as possible, we had drinks at the bar, we bought wine, macarons and souvenirs at the shop. As a matter of fact everyone at the shop was very helpful and answered all the questions we had about everything including what we missed from the tour. .They even gave us padding for the wine bottle we bought to be able to travel with it without fear of breaking it.

    Sunshine picnic
Beautiful old cloisters where you can sit outside with your own picnic bought onsite. Enjoyed lunch in the sunshine with beautiful cheese, pate and a chilled bottle of wine. Would definitely recommend if visiting Saint-Emilion.

A great tour with our tour guide Angie
We did the TucTuc Tour and it was really nice! We had a fantastic and enthusiastic tour guide named Angie. We recommend this tour for sure. We learned a lot about the village and the sparkling wine. A special thanks to Angie.

Terrific tour, in English, followed by a tasting of 3 wines, plus a macaroon. Our guide was excellent, as was her English.
Very interesting, and lovely wines.

We didn't do any touring here, but we had a delightful picnic. There is a walk-up bar outside where you place your order. They put everything (glasses, napkins, cutlery, etc...) in a basket for us and we had no trouble finding a table to enjoy it. We chose toasts and pate, along with some sparkling wine and it made for a refreshing and relaxing afternoon. Besides the items we ordered, they had baguettes, chips, cheese, veggies, ice cream, various wines and cocktails, and desserts. It was a very extensive menu and what we had was excellent quality.

Got a couple of beautiful photos. That's about it. It is one of the historical sites in the town so it must be seen. It is close to the tourist office.

This is small Cloitre and their grounds are very nice. I think the best part of the visit is to take a tour of the underground cellars which you enter thru the gift shop/ tasting room. They only run tours a few time a day so check the schedule. Its a good way to get a look at the underground tunnels that run below the city and learn how sparkling wine was (and still is) made here.

Browsing around Saint Emilion on a lovely warm day we fancied something light for lunch. Stumbled across this gem and what a treat it was. A picnic in the gardens.
Basically you choose from the menu what you would like for your picnic - it’s all presented to you in a fabulous wooden hamper complete with chopping board and knives. Glasses or bottles of sparkling wine or red wine served to accompany.
Then you take your picnic to the courtyard or gardens to picnic and while away the afternoon in the sunshine. Pure heaven.

This old Franciscan monastery is the perfect shaded spot to enjoy an aperitivo after walking to town from the train station. They have been producing their own sparkling wine, the Cremant in 17m deep aging cellars since centuries and they have certainly improved them to perfection in that time. And they also match beautifully with the original macarons that also origin from St Emilion, a simple but super tasty treat, a far cry from the overhyped, overdecorated Parisian version. The cafe/restaurant is self-service and joins a shop where all the above can also be purchased for home.
