This is a spring where the Virgin Mary drank while on her way to see her cousin Elizabeth. The water is still flowing, but is not safe to drink. We were glad we took the time to stop and see this historic place.

A small walk from the main road, and you'll find this nonstop spring, who floats all the time.

The water is cold and refreshing at hot days, but not so good for drink.

Mary’s Spring, or the Fountain of the Virgin, is located at the bottom of the hill leading to the Church of the Visitation. Tradition says that Mary stopped here to drink from the freshwater spring on her journey to visit her cousin, Elizabeth. A small mosque, now abandoned, was built over the spring in the mid-1800's. While the water is still flowing, it is NOT safe to drink. We took a quick photo and continued up the hill to the church.

This site is open to the public, in the center of the village a stream on top of which a Mosque was built many years ago. The Muslim residents of the town fled in Israel's war of independence, so the Mosque is not operational now and serves as a land mark. The water flows from a pier coming from under the building. The source of the water has gone bad and the water is not safe for drinking. Ein Kerem has a number of Churches and Christian traditions of events of the New Testament that took place here. It is a very beautiful place to visit and has religious significance for Christians.

This small spring where it said that the Virigin Mary stopped to drink while visisting Elizabeth. it was taken over by the Arabs in the area and they turned it into a mosque with a water fountain at front ( very common in the Mosque builidngs to leave a water spout for free to the passwr by, called Sabeel).
after 1948 war, the arbs were relocated out of Ein Karem and the mosque was closed.
it is now an area of hip upscale Jewish comminuity.
Do not drink the water from this sprink as it is not purified.

It is believed that Mary quenched her thirst at this well on her visit to Elizabeth. The symbolic well is built inside a mosque at the foot of the hill. The water is not clean. Cannot miss it as it is on the way to the church of Visitation.

This spring is set in the picturesque town of Zeinab Kerem. The town is lovely and home to many artists. The Virgin Mary stopped at this spring to drink before traveling up to the hill to visit her cousin Elizabeth. From this spot you see hills covered with pines and lovely terracing.
