Had a wonderful massage and traditional scrub with Asha. I came in sore and achy from 40+ hours in airports and on planes, and left feeling amazing. The scrub was especially lovely, a real treat. I’m hopelessly ticklish and don’t always enjoy massages, but Asha was super considerate about that and checked with me multiple times to make sure I was comfortable. Her technique worked really well for me. the ladies who run the shop are helpful in giving recommendations for treatments and if you want to buy any of their products, and everything is natural and locally made and of course it all smells amazing. Overall their customer service was excellent in a way that was super down to earth - if you’re looking for everyone to treat you like you’re gods greatest gift that’s definitely not the vibe, it’s more like the therapists and staff are genuinely kind and helpful and the whole experience feels very human. (Sometimes spas feel inauthentic, sterile and uncomfortable to me, like I don’t belong because I’m not a multimillionaire, and that was not at all my experience at Mrembo.)

I thought it was good value for money, and I have no complaints paying a bit more at women-managed small businesses than I would at an assembly line massage at a resort. My only regret was that I didn’t have time for a pedicure too!

Received an excellent manicure, massage, and scrub from Mrembo Spa! Zuber is a skilled masseur who was able to find all my problem areas and relieve the tension built up in those areas. He was extremely kind and respectful. Would highly recommend the oud scented scrub/other products.

One of the best way to get into the holiday mood... a good relaxing massage.
My masseur, Salim, has golden hands. It was definitely one of the best massage I have had and I have had loads. If you're in Stone Town, don't hesitate, get a massage.
Only downside, the booking system doesn't work (I never received a reply) but I just turned up anyway and it was fine.

I had a seaweed wrap treatment for 90min. It’s was very authentic, although a little overpriced. The spa is beautiful and it’s super interesting to learn about traditional treatments and spices they use.

I live in Stone Town and Mrembo Spa is my preferred place for relaxation and pampering. I love that it is not clinical, but really takes the best of Zanzibar into the experience.

My daughter and I decided to visit Mrembo Spa today and it was marvelous. We booked the beauty experience which involved making a spice body scrub, preparing coconut for beauty products, a massage, full body scrub and then a henna design. We were there for almost 2.5hrs. The staff were wonderful, great English in the workshop, fab massages, freshly prepared scrub. Can't recommend it more highly. It should be on the main excursion list in all hotels as great value, great learning and a lot of relaxation

Very good experience, overall. Stefanie (the owner I think) is very welcoming, warm and informative about the products available for sale at the spa. The place was organized, super clean and maintained the African/Zanzibarian feel to the place in the best way. If you are expecting a Western spa experience, don't bother.
My therapist was Asha, a blind lady with magical hands, she did an amazing job. I highly recommend her.

I recently learnt how to make Udi (incense) at a really informative and fun workshop at Mrembo Spa. Mrembo is a beautiful, stylish spa in the heart of Stone Town. The staff and management are really helpful and knowledgeable and their products are natural. For an authentic experience I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Thanks to all for really informative workshop.

Hi ! We went at mrembo because we wanted a manucure. Its expansive but the place is nice and the lady who received us was nice. we wanted our "lady moment"! We booked for the day after and had to pay a 20.000 deposit. The day after we arrived 10' early and it was another lady. She was really not welcoming. In this country where people greets for hours and smile, we just got a "have you booked?". Then when the manucure room was ready she was rude. Just a "okay" and a rude "sit here". So we left. I told her we were leaving because she made us unconfortable and was rude. she started screaming her colleagues name. No sorry. She grabbed my harm very hard and wouldnt let me go. I said "keep the deposit and left".

Dear 763lucasj Thank you very much for your comment. We are happy you write to us but it would have been ever more helpful to have had a chance to talk personally and be able to solve the proble on the spot. I spoke to Tatu our therapist who explained to me that you were welcomed and she asked you to wait and welcomed you with spice tea. Sometimes the language barrier is the reason people think our therapist is not kind. I can plead for them that they are all fanstastic and super friendly individuals. Tatu said “sit here” translated directly from Kiswahili “ Kaa hapa”. Both Kiswahili language as well as Arabic are often speaking in imperative but the feeling is genuine and very natural indeed. These are cultural differences and does not mean that she is not welcoming. We are also knows to be a traditional spa and our ladies are natural and not fake. Many spas are extremely friendly but are they really or is that they way they need to be? Sorry you experienced it as being rude. Tatu is our most popular therapist and she is not a rude person at all. Thank you, Stefanie

Best aromatherapy massage ever! Asha, who is blind, had the perfect pressure and it was just a wonderful experience which totally relaxed me. The whole atmosphere in the shop was welcoming and all the staff were so helpful. I wish I could go every week! I bought lots of their lovely body creams and oils to remind me of it when I get home.
