On a safari you're sitting a lot or standing in your vehicle to spot the animals, but the element of moving comes short - a lot!!! So we thought we include a little movement in our safari at Lake Manyara National Park. This 45min-1h treetop walkway inside the national park is a great side activity that we highly recommend. We took a few video shots that you can find on our youtube channel.

We booked this add-on excursion through Unlimited Expeditions...Soul of Tanzania as part of our day in Lake Manyara National Park. Our guide (whose name has totally escaped me...I kinda wanna say maybe it was Martin?) was very polite and friendly and was willing to take all the pictures we wanted. He had lots of interesting facts to share. The course was nicely put together and we felt very safe. The day we were there we had a bit of rain but it did not interfere with our time on the walkway. I guess we just maybe expected it to be a bit..."more"... more thrilling maybe? Or more noteworthy? More to it? More to see? More of a time commitment? All of the above? It was fun enough, but we just felt it was lacking something. We don't get upset that we didn't see enough animals as that is up to nature and not the company that runs the walkway. But...I think in hindsight we did expect to see "more" birds at the very least. We saw a few Sykes Blue Monkeys, some Fischer's Lovebirds, and some butterflies and a whole lot of foliage...which was nice. We were most surprised that it didn't take more time to complete. This was our first trip to Tanzania and at the time that we booked all of our things we assumed it would be our ONLY trip here; so we wanted to do it all and see it all as much as possible. We have now discovered just how wrong we were in our "one and done" thinking and so of course we will be back. But, I think we can say "been there, done it" for the treetop walkway and on our next trip to Lake Manyara we will not spend the extra money or the small amount of time to repeat it again. It's a shame I can't rave about this experience because I really wanted to. The effort it took to create the walkway is quite impressive. We didn't dislike it at all...but we just weren't blown away either. If you have the time and can afford to add it to your day then great...but if not then I would focus more on just seeing the park.

The purpose of that treetop walkway is to be close to "animals", especially hornbills. its nice and professionally made, but "animals" are not really happy to see you and just escape from your sightseeing ... maybe a butterfly ... Hornbills who was probably here before this treetop walkway just move further in the forest not to be bothered. Like the hot spring peer, before it was built their was a lot of flamingos, since its done for tourist to see them more closely, flamingos went enough far to be quiet ....anyhow, if you have time to spend, and money, its original.

We were very disappointed in this stop. We didn't see any animals during our walk, which took no more than 15 minutes. We thought it would overlook the park but it does not. There was just alot of foliage below the walkway. You are better off spending more time in the park itself. We thought it would be a good idea to get out of the vehicle to get some exercise but it was so short and uninteresting that I would not recommend it.
