Flooded lake and poor roads with few animals made for a very disappointing day. Plus not safe having to contend with dozens of huge dump trucks loaded with paving stones/rock speeding down narrow dirt roads and barely missing the safari truck on several occasions. My advice: Spend the day elsewhere. Add it to your Serengeti days or if you’re going to Zanzibar, take the extra day there. Zero reason to waste a trip day here. Only bonus for us was an additional day at the Ngorongoro Farm House Lodge which was awesome and I’ll review separately.

Lake not accessible
Apr 2021
Could not get to the lake as water was just to high and covered the road. Went thru the jungle forever and saw elephants but overall we would have skipped this honestly

Flooded lake made viewing not as good as normal....
Dec 2020
We spent one night at Lake Manyara during a time when the lake was so flooded most of the roads were closed, causing a lot less wildlife viewing. We did see more monkeys up close here than in other parks we visited. There was a section of road right by the water that had fabulous bird life if you could stay and watch a while, but the tse tse flies were so bad, that made it not much fun. For this particular trip with the flooded state of the lake, if we had to do it again, we would've spent another night in Ndutu instead. But if you're planning far in advance (like you normally have to do with Tanzania, but thanks to COVID we planned 6 weeks before) you can't really tell if the lake will be full....it is a very forested area, making viewing a bit more difficult. We did see plenty of giraffes, a couple elephants, and some antelope.

Disappointing
Dec 2020 • Solo
Thick vegetation means it is very hard to ee wildlife. Saw an elephant cross the road into the vegetation and 2 seconds in he had disappeared. That is how thick it is.

Due to heavy rains the lake was much fuller than usual so there were no animals or birds in it and so I didn't see an hippos or flamingoes. The highlight was seeing baboons and zebras. To be honest it wasn't worth the trip after seeing Tarangire and if you go I would spend a MAXIMUM of half a day here.

Also the bathrooms either had no soap or soap that had been watered down so much it was no longer soap. Frankly unacceptable in the current climate of COVID.

Sow many Great Viewings of Animals!
Nov 2020
This was my first Safari. Right off the bat, we were introduced to the many chimpanzees who were roaming the park. I enjoyed a very closeup with Elephants, Black-Faced monkeys, Blue Monkies, Giraffes, Zebras, Impalas, and African Buffalo.
What a great first introduction to a Safari and the animal world.

While Lake Manyara is beautiful, it is in the end, it is just a lake. The vegetation in the park is extremely thick and spotting wildlife, even birds, is very difficult. The only wildlife sightings of note are those where the animals crossed the road. We basically saw elephants (not exciting after visiting Tarangire) , a few bush bucks and impala, and baboons.

The big draw here is tree climbing lions. These are extremely rare to see unless they happen to be right next to the road and they generally climb the trees in the wet season trying to escape the wet ground.

It’s not big, but lots to see
Nov 2019
On our last safari day, we visited Lake Manyara National Park. It’s not a big park, but there are lots of things to see, we saw many different animals: lions, elephants, hippos, water buffalos, baboons, etc. more impressively, we saw many varieties of birds there. It’s said there are more than 400 bird species have been recorded there. We thoroughly enjoyed the place. Highly recommend.

Fun Game Drive
Sep 2020
Lake Manyara was the last game drive for us after touring Tarangire, Lake Natron, North Serengeti, Central Serengeti (Seronera), and Ngorongoro Crater. For a fun change of pace, we canoed Lake Manyara and the most memorable part of the game drive of Lake Manyara were the hundreds of baboons everywhere. Gosheni safari guide William was the best, and we hope to return to Tanzania for another incredible fabulous safari.

Incredible and amazing Park
Jul 2020
I have visited lake Manyara National Park for 2day/1Night and experience the real stunning place with plenty of wildlife. It was my first time to spot the tree climbing lion that made my day superb. I am really happy to recommend other local and international travelers to visit and explore a life time place like this.
