We did an underwater scooter ride with Scuba-Doo and had a wonderful time. It was a wonderful experience to basically snorkel without getting my head or face wet and being able to leave my glasses on while doing it.
The scooters are basically one unit with what appears like a helmet attached, you get on by ducking your head under and into the helmet section while sliding your body onto the seat from the rear then just put your feet onto the foot plates and hold on to the handlebars. The helmet section is quite large, wider than my shoulders and does NOT actually touch your body at all. There is plenty of room in it to move around to look backwards and to the sides. The bottom of the helmet is open at all times and you can even reached up into it to scratch your nose or get hair out your eyes or whatever else you might want to do. You don't notice the oxygen going into the helmet but the pressure of the air going into the helmet must obviously be greater than the pressure of the water trying to get in and this what keeps the water out of the helmet - quite simple really. Then you push one button to go and like a bike you turn the handlebars right or left to steer.
We were first given a safety briefing and shown how to use the scooters. Then we boarded our scooters while on the platform of the boat, the oxygen was turned on and we were slowly lowered down into the water. Once submerged our diver pulled the scooter (and us) off the platform and we could start riding wherever we wanted provided we stayed within sight on each other. The scooters do not go very fast so even a child can use them safely. We had one scuba diver stay with the 2 of us to ensure our safety and assist if needed. He also took photos and video of us while we rode and fed the fish. We descended 4metres, the coral was 2metres below us but looked to be much closer. We couldn't go down any further or damage the coral as there was a large buoy connected by a rope to the top of each scooter to stop us going too far down and so the man in the boat above knew exactly where we were. We saw lots of beautiful corals in an array of colours and heaps of fish. I think the coral was more beautiful and much more colours here than what we saw while snorkelling in Seycelles. The diver handed us some bread which we flaked in the water and he took more photos and video while heaps of fish came flocking for a morsel.
The ride was about 20 minutes in duration then we were directed back up to the boat, the scooters were reloaded onto the ramp and we were raised out of the water before we climbed off the scooters. It was a wonderful experience, wouldn't hesitate to do this again if l ever get the chance. After the ride we were collected from the shore and taken back to Louis's where we were given a drink while waiting for a copy of our pictures and movie to burn on a DVD we were given to take home. This was all included in the cost. It was a fun experience and Louis and his wife were such pleasant hosts, Highly recommended for all age groups - even for non-swimmers.

Picked up from our hotel by friendly owner Louis, we were given a safety briefing back at his home/office, & chatted while we waited for the tide to recede far enough to allow the boat to pass safely through a channel in the reef. Having squeezed into short wetsuits, we set off on the boat out across the sparkling crystal-clear turquoise-blue water. After only a few minutes, the anchor was dropped & the crew positioned our bright yellow Scuba-Doo scooters on a platform.
We climbed onto the scooters &, accompanied by a scuba diver, the platform was lowered slowly into the water. Inside the large integrated helmets, the water level came up to just below our shoulders, & it didn't feel at all claustrophobic. Immediately we were surrounded by lots of silver-&-black-striped fish & silver fish with black spots by their tails, which darted back & forwards in front of us. They obviously knew what was about to come as our diver twice gave us handfuls of bread to feed them, & they jostled each other to nibble at our fingers as they gobbled it up. Brilliant! Then we were able to “drive” ourselves around for a while to explore a bit of the reef accompanied by more fish & our diver. All too soon it was time to go back up onto the boat.
The whole time we were underwater, our diver was taking photos & videos of us which later, back on land, Louis downloaded & burnt onto a CD which we took away with us. He also emailed the folder to us as a back-up. The photos & video are a great souvenir of an excellent trip, & our broad smiles show how much we enjoyed ourselves!
This was a great morning out! It’s a safe activity for swimmers & non-swimmers, & for any age (apparently their oldest customer so far was an 86-year old lady!). Thanks Louis & your team! This is a must-do if you are in the Trou aux Biches area!

We booked the underwater scooter activity prior to our holiday in Mauritius for our 2 teenagers. On arrival we had an email on the morning it was booked for that it would be cancelled due to the weather. It was rearranged & again cancelled. This happened on 3 occasions. On the 4 th occasion we were told that it would be going ahead so we arrived at the house/ office. It is a very difficult place to find just off a main road & there is no parking either. We were greeted by both husband & wife that run the business. 2 other couples also arrived that had travelled almost 2 hours to get there. On arrival we were told the activity again will not be going ahead, this was the 4th occasion. It was rescheduled for 2 days later, the morning of the evening we were due to fly back. We were informed that it would be perfectly safe to do the activity even though we had a flight the same evening. Unfortunately on his morning one of the children was unwell, we had to cancel the activity. Furthermore upon seeking advice from the hotels scuba diving centre we were advised it was safer not to go ahead with the activity as we were flying later that day, despite being told by the owners it would be perfectly safe to do so.
When we requested a refund from the owners they refused even tho they had cancelled on 4 occasions. If they were so safety conscious why did they recommend it would be safe to do the activity on the morning of the day we were flying ???? We felt we had to revolve our whole holiday around this activity only to be disappointed each time & then to be refused a refund for a very expensive activity.
The children felt very disappointed and let down. Our advice would be to never book with this company, book with a larger more established and professional company, that you can rely on and would give a refund if they were unable to deliver. Never again!!!!!!

In one word it's "Just-Amazing".... Enjoy this life changing experience where you get to dive to almost 3 to 4 meters in the deep sea and walk for a few steps along with colorful fishes touching you body. Think about the feeling when their cold bodies touches you and you can take pictures with them underwater. Isn't the though of the feeling itself seems so amazing? Just try this activity if you are visiting this place. It's one of the best experiences one can have in life. You can also have paragliding and travel in the speed boat as other activities clubbed with this. I can assure you no other activities can give you as much pleasure as this activity. It's a must if you are visiting the north side of this beautiful Island.

Prior to the trip, we received a lengthy lecture from the proprietor regarding his policy of safety, safety, and safety. However, once on the boat, the first issue was with a faulty scooter (apparently a battery issue) which meant that one of the four scooters didn't move, causing quite some concern to onlookers, but not apparently to the two divers and the boat driver, until we finally managed to alert them to the fact that one scooter was malfunctioning. So, that meant that we were a scooter short, and frankly following this, two of us no longer wished to do the ride.

We were advised to leave all possessions at the owner's home, and did so. However, we were on the boat, quite a way from shore for approximately 1.5 hours. There was no water, no towels, and very little shelter, and for a business which allegedly prides itself on safety, there was not one lifejacket on board. I know this, as a youngish person on the trip who was not permitted to swim in the deep sea without one, was very disappointed when advised that there was not one available.

I have advised the booking company of my concerns and they have been prompt in their investigation and replies, but they have advised that ultimately, it is the proprietor's word against mine. Here endeth the lesson!!

The whole experience ended up a fiasco, we were expecting a pick up which we paid for. Finally arriving after phone calls we were assured we would be okay and enjoy the experience. My wife was very nervous and wasn't helped when we got on board the boat. The satisfy talk was finished and we were treated like second class on board and hardly any interaction with the crew. When it was our turn the divers didn't realise we were riding. We had a minute brief run through on how to access the scooter and the buttons. We go taken into the water the scooter was nearly static. The divers had us in the water probably 10 mins maximum the scooters hardly moved the whole experience was disappointing. We have now viewed the DVD disc which proves what a poor set of photos we were given. I would urge anyone thinking of doing this experience to think again. Unless you're the first out and the divers are not bored.

Six years ago my ten year old son did the Scuba Doo adventure with Luis en Lola and we did some incredible scuba diving with them. This year we can back because our son is now a qualified scuba diver and was ready to dive! We received such a warm welcome and it felt like we were back at old friends.
As always things were buzzing at the office as everyone was keen to use the good weather (has been raining for a few days before we came) to join for the scuba doo adventure. Which I can highly recommend - a wonderful option for those who cannot dive, but would like to experience the undersea world.
The great thing is that if you are scuba diving here, you can sleep in a bit - not like in other places where you have to be on the beach early. The reason for this is that the Scuba-Doo adventures take place early in the morning as it is very much regulated by the weather. And scuba diving a bit later.
We started with a dive on the Stella Maru wreck - about 25 m max. Stunning dive with lots of fish. The viz was about 15 meters - we thought it was good coming from SA, but the locals told us this was bad to Mauritian standards!!
THe second dive as on Coral Gardens - a beautiful reef. We saw lots of eels, a giant titan trigger fish and even a leaf fish - very special.
One of the best experiences is the social afterwards when log books are being filled in and everyone sits around the table being treated to real Mauritian hospitality.
Thanx Luis and Lola for being such special people and making all feel so welcome! See you for some more diving soon!

We booked this for 2 adults and a nine yr old child. I'd researched it before we left the UK as an alternative to scuba diving (which my son can't yet do in open water). It looked great as it was one of the only such experiences where my son would be able to drive his own under water scooter (not having to be on back with me driving).

We were really late arriving as we'd been held up in bad traffic on the way and the South African owner and his wife couldn't have been more nice about it - we'd had no way of contacting them to let them know because we didn't have a local mobile phone. But they just said they'd put us on the next trip out, which was brilliant.

It could have been a really great experience - no need for diving equipment or anything in your mouth. The Mauritian staff on board the boat were brilliant, very friendly and knowledgeable.

Unfortunately though my son didn't enjoy the experience because he was just too short. There is an age restriction when you book but no height restriction. There needs to be. It needs to be around 140cm. He is short for his age (maybe 132cm) and whilst the scooba doo scooters had the ability to have a bigger seat put on (which the staff did) he still found that once seated and under the water the sea was lapping around his chin (as opposed to us where the water was lapping on our shoulders). It wasn't dangerous but he felt really worried and anxious (and he loves the water) and so he ended up indicating that he wasn't ok and being taken back up to the boat quite soon. This also ruined it for us really because we were worrying that he would be upset at missing out and so weren't really looking at everything that we could have - we pretty much wished the time away....

It was an expensive experience to not go to plan.

I'd recommend it to others - especially people who can't swim / snorkel but wouldn't recommend it to anyone with a child under 140cm.
