The railroad trip was a fantastic fall trip we took with a group of friends. The fall foliage made the trip even more beautiful. Just the experience of riding a train through the mountains was great. We were able to walk out on to an open box car or the rear train car and watch the scenery go by. The... More

We have attended several activities through Adirondack Scenic Railroad. They ranges from Polar Express and Thomas the Train events to the Wine and Beer trains. Either way, fun was had by all. The volunteers do a great job running every event, family oriented or wine and beer trains.

We had a great time on our scenic round trip train ride from Saranac Lake to Lake Placid! The Saranac train depot is much nicer than the Lake Placid one for 2 reasons... The location and the size. I recommend the open car for seating as the air conditioned train car had a terrible smell( not sure if smoking used... More

Really good time. Food was just appetizers but satisfying. Wine was reasonably priced. Live music great wait staff and to think they all were volunteers.

Read about this scenic railroad in a rail fan magazine. Coaches have dutch doors (top half open and bottom half closed) offering lots of photo opportunities which the conductor advised. At Thendara, I took the shuttle bus into town for the enjoyable Old Forge Lake cruise (which has a separate report.) Utica's Union Station was built 100+ years ago by... More

We were visiting our adult son in the area and looking for something for us three adults to do. I booked tickets on the railroad to Old Forge with the added lake cruise. We had a great day with perfect weather. The train was surprisingly nice; we've ridden on many other scenic railroads and I think this has the nicest... More

When he was in his teens, my 95 year old father used to ride this train to go skiing in Old Forge. In recent years, it has been restored and is available for pleasure trips to Thendara/Old Forge and Big Moose Lake for lunch, We just returned from hosting 25 friends and relatives to the Lake for lunch. EVERYONE enjoyed... More

we got the train at the Utica train station- which is an extremely old building and lovely to walk around while waiting for the train to arrive. The ride was most enjoyable glancing out the window at small towns as we past by as people waved to us from the country side. You can bring your own snacks or buy... More

We do tourist trains on our vacations, so we know the drill and the expectations for these types of trains. We were very pleased with our Adirondack Scenic experience. If you have never ridden a train, this is a good place to start. If you are a seasoned train rider, get on board before the trail people make this train... More

From the moment that we stepped into the Union Station, I realized that this was going to be an amazing adventure: 9:00 a.m - 7:00 p.m... a wonderful vacation day in NYS. The ride was beautiful. We left drought stricken central NY, and saw rain in Adirondack Park. The ride was comfortable and so scenic. We had 3 hours in... More
