About
At the King’s Garden, we celebrate Ticonderoga’s long legacy, including an epic 18th-century narrative, landmark preservation in the 19th-century, and monumental restoration in the 20th-century. Come to the King’s Garden to explore one of the oldest cultivated landscapes in America. Explore the brick pathways in the colorful colonial revival garden designed by Marian Coffin for the Pell family in 1921. Take in all the aroma and color of this 20th-century garden and be sure to get rooted in the history of this land by seeing our other five gardens that demonstrate the layers of horticulture at Ticonderoga. Join a tour of this epic land, or get your hands dirty in one of our hands-on horticulture programs. Interact with today’s gardeners to discover tips to bring home in your own gardens, or talk with our historical gardeners to realize just how vast the history of horticulture is at Ticonderoga. All this, while enjoying the breath-taking beauty of the King’s Garden.

We visited the King's Garden first thing in the morning, upon arriving at Fort Ticonderoga and were the only people there. That made for a very peaceful experience. The garden and a few old cottage style buldings make you feel like you are in a fariy tale.

The King's Garden is the perfect backdrop to Lake Champlain and the looming Fort Ticonderoga from up above. Just off Lake Champlain and behind William Pell's summer home "Pavilion" sits this beautiful 6 acre garden full of fruits, vegetables and flowers. In 1921 there was a gorgeous Colonial Revival Garden built for Mrs. Pell with classic brick structures and designs that stand the test of time. You can almost envision what it might have been like 100+ years ago at this beautiful summer home on the lake. William Pell was an enthusiastic horticulturalist evidenced by the property still today.

If you love gardens and flowers, this is the place to visit after visiting Ft. Ticonderoga. The gardens are part of the estate of the Pell family who restored the Fort and built a summer home here and walled gardens in the early 1900's. The palce fell to almost ruins but has been restored with millions of dollarsd including recreating to a flower Mrs. Pell's beautiful English walled garden with center reflecting pool.

The house is not yet open for vistors (soon) but the gardenas are gorgeous and well-tended. It is quite a walk from the parking lot to the house/gardens but with care could be wheel chair accessible.

The teahouse is beautiful within the gardens as is the brick walkway. Take care as it is not smooth and stumbling is possible if you are not steady.

The Carillon boat tour leaves from the dock in front of the historic restored home called "The Pavillion".

All-in-all, it's a love retreat for a beautiful garden walk. I may add that I am rather prejudiced as I was privy to be inside the house when it was occupied by the later Pell family during the summer in the late 1960's. I'm so glad it has been restored and appreciated.

As we left Ft. Ticonderoga it started to rain. But we did not want to miss a quick stop at these gardens. There is a home here that is being refurbished as part of the fort area, and looks like it will be stunning.
We were surprised to see that there were strawberries and vegetables that were still being harvested this late in the season (October). Some of the flowers were also still blooming.
Nice view of Lake Champlain from the front yard.
Worth a stop!

The Fort has done a remarkable job of this garden. I saw it years ago and it is MUCH nicer now. Truly beautiful and well-cared for. It is a classic walled garden with lawn, symmetry, sculpture, and gorgeous flowers. I recommend it highly.

Maybe not everyone likes to walk around a garden, but I do. It's lovely - attractive design and well kept. Nice to stroll through if you're waiting for others to finish a tour, waiting to board the boat tour, or you just like gardens!

Severely over looked portion of the park. I understand that budget is tight with other projects but, some TLC is definitely needed in the garden.

A beautifully laid out garden. It was easy to visualize how keeping a vegetable garden helped supply the fort with provisions. The formal flower garden was just lovely to walk through.

We went to the fort which gets you access to the gardens. To be clear we did not go to see the gardens, so we are not the best judge of gardens. They were nice. They looked great and were had benches and an overlook of the water.

Worth checking out if you are at the fort. If you are not into gardens, I would not plan to spend more than a few minutes here.
