The Ticonderoga Historical Society, organized in 1897 and chartered by the New York State Board of Regents in 1909, preserves and interprets history through collections, exhibits, programs and community outreach. With a primary focus on the historical, educational, scientific and social aspects of the Adirondack Mountains and Lakes Champlain and George regions, we showcase the important contributions of our region to the history of New York and the United States while preserving and promoting our unique cultural history. The Ticonderoga Historical Society is a 501-c-3 non-profit organization. Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of Internal Revenue Service regulations.

Stopped here after a trip to Fort Ticonderoga. Fascinating story behind the house, which was never lived in, it was built as a recreation of John Hancock's house in Boston. Lots of displays and artifacts. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this for people interested in US history.

I've been wanting to visit the Hancock House for a while and since we were in the area for Ticonderoga and Saratoga, it was the perfect chance. It's a replica of John Hancock's house that was let fall to ruin in Boston and torn down in the 19th century (the loss of the Hancock House actually spurred a lot of preservation work at other historic locations). The outside of the home is impressive and the downstairs parlor and upstairs bedroom reflect some of the colonial decor (and a table actually owned by the family in Boston). The upstairs floors had some cool exhibits--they change, but they were about WWI, Suffrage and 1968, all of which happen to be of some personal interest to me so it was an extra surprise!). The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and they only ask a $5 donation. Spend an hour or fifteen minutes depending on your interest level--it's worth it either way. I believe there is also a research library in the other half of the downstairs if you need to do local historic or genealogical research.

The Ticonderoga Historical Society is located in a beautiful Georgian style home at 6 Moses Circle, Ticonderoga. The building was constructed in 1926 and patterned after the Hancock House in Boston, built in the 1730's. There is a gift shop, a museum, and very helpful people who are attentive and know their history. The building is open 10-4, Wednesday-Saturday, year round. If you have an interest in history, and the time, this museum is worth a stop. The gift shop has many very interesting books at reasonable prices.

We toured the Historical Society and it has many nice displays, great history from the area and era. Many stairs. Very nice art gallery. The people who work there are very knowlegeable and so friendly. It was a nice place to stop.

The Hancock House is very interesting! The exhibits are extremely eclectic and show Ticonderoga"s history. Our tour guide was great and so much fun. She was extremely informative. I highly recommend it!

We went there to hear a talk on Jews in the Andirondacks. Their staff compiled and presented what was an amazing journey with pictures of the 1800s - 1900s.

This is a great stop to learn about the history of Lake Champlain and the battles that went on there long before our time. So is Fort Ti, do them both, learn lots!

They have an excellent museum. Have monthly Friday evening talks on different aspects of area history.different each time. the first week in December sale which includes three local museums. Fort Ticonderoga museum. Ticonderoga Heritage museum and the Handcock (Ticonderoga Historical Society) in their building. Also the home of the festival of trees (about 40) from Thanksgiving thru Christmas. Also the Historical Society have an very large collection of WWII which is brought for display for month of November each year.
my wife and I attend some of the talks, look at the displays, enjoy the museum. I also set up an Christmas tree with help of some friends
as committee person in charge of the Stamp Club tree. Ornaments using real USA stamps.

Having lots of genealogy and historical involvement in the area, I was hoping to find more information on the years around the Revolutionary War. There wasn't much. However, the hostess in the Historical Society was very friendly and informative. There were some nice displays, and I'm glad we stopped.

Just seeing what John Hancock's house looked like in Boston back in the 1700's is worth the visit. It was build using the original blueprints for his house in Boston.
