Overlooking the Hudson River in Tarrytown, New York, is Lyndhurst, one of America’s finest Gothic Revival mansions. Designed in 1838 by Alexander Jackson Davis, its architectural brilliance is complemented by the park-like landscape of the estate and a comprehensive collection of original decorative arts. Its noteworthy occupants included: former New York City mayor William Paulding, merchant George Merritt, and railroad tycoon Jay Gould. Lyndhurst is a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The tour and tour guide were full of surprises. Lot of fun and lot of information. Did the Classic Tour which was suggested for first timers. But the grounds look like they are worth another trip.

Lovely house and grounds. Lots of history. Can't imagine living in such a place but in it's day I'm sure it was the envy of many! Lovely art.

We missed the window to book the evening tour option with the murder mystery. So we took the historical tour. This is a must for anyone interested in Gothic Revival, architecture, or interior design. It is a beautiful estate and an absolute must-see destination.

I have seen some other reviews that said the tour was "cheesy", etc. In my opinion, that is what made it great. You have to go in with a light hearted frame of mind. You have to appreciate silly things. Don't be so serious and...More

I believe that you can. there are 2 separate fees for the property. one is a grounds admission, which gets credited towards the house tour, if you take it.
