We decided to take a holiday tour the Friday after Thanksgiving and really enjoyed it. The house is decorated for the holidays which was nice (though period decor would have been cool!) Our guide was fantastic with his story telling and information about the house. There were very interesting features of the house and it's design that you have to... More

My daughter and I toured Lyndhurst on a busy Saturday after the Xmas decorations had been put up. Our tour guide, Peter, was extremely knowledgeable and personable. He kept the historic information interesting and entertaining. The home is spectacular- I would have liked to see the kitchens though. Photos are encouraged which was a nice change from most historic homes.... More

This is a beautiful home. Unfortunately the ground floor was decorated for Halloween and it really took away from the character of the home. Maybe it looked better at nite but it was not very well done. (the outside decor was good though) The upstairs was unadorned and was very interesting. The guide seemed very knowledgeable but got hung up... More

We were here for the Halloween and it was raining, made the experience all the more authentic. Actors were great very professional, and they have a different theme every yr so be sure to check them out. We had fun, totally different experience! No cameras allowed inside, though.

The day we visited (get tour tickets in advance), we were lucky to have a top notch guide who was well versed in art, customs and architecture of this "house" - ok, Castle - during the time of its hay-day. Magnificent building in a magnificent location....you can see the Tappan Zee bridge to the right. We were also lucky to... More

I booked during the Halloween season and thought the Halloween twist would make it more interesting. Not knowing what that meant, I was disappointed once we saw that the home was decorated with cheesy Halloween decorations. Our tour guide explained that he was a "purist" and had to point out what was original to the home and what was decorations... More

What a fun beautiful place. We went for a Halloween event the decorations were beautiful and the actors were very entertaining. I would love to go back for the regular tour.

Go during the day. Do not go to the "Jay ghouls house of curiosities", because you'll get exactly what the name suggests: A total lame hustle and ripoff. (I mean seriously? You couldn't come up with a more period name, "Dr. Mortimer","Baron Blackshear's" house of curiosities, etc.. no, I guess nothing says 'period' like the name "jay"?!?) The last reviewer... More

Visited the grounds 10/22/16. House tours were sold out but the the outside of the house is spectacular, view of the river & scarecrow fest. $5 per person grounds fee. Would be a great place for a picnic lunch.

We visited Lyndhurst for the Jay Ghoul's House of Curiosities. We were expecting more than it was and it also only lasted maybe 30". I would have much rather toured the mansion its self then what we did. From what we saw walking through 3-4 rooms it's beautiful. Lyndhurst is open for regular tours, but we visited for a Halloween... More
