Wow. Really nice holiday tradition seeing the many trees decorated so beautifully. They are all for sale and reasonably priced

Came to see the history of Onondaga Lake film. The film was very good. The auditorium was not so hot. Perhaps it's good for kids but for old folks it was difficult to get in and out. Seating was designed for non humans. Couldn't lean back, couldn't put feet on the floor. I had to sit in one of three chairs on the far right if the screen. Reminded me if a Seinfield episode. There were many folks my age and older and all had difficulty navigating the step seats. Very nice museum just not a good auditorium.

We spent almost two hours here, and enjoyed the information about local history, the underground railroad, women's rights, as well as a special exhibition about Gustav Stickley, and Victorian fashions, including a Charles Worth dress from c. 1870.

I recently took the guided tour of the Hotel Syracuse (aka Marriott Syracuse Downtown) that is done by this organization. I found the tour to be thorough and comprehensive. My only complaint was that it was advertised as a 1 1/2 hour tour, and it went on for just over 2 1/2 hours. We were quite exhausted and hungry by the time it was over!

This is a small but lovely museum featuring authentic exhibits from Onondaga Counties history, great place to go if you are a fan of local history. The gift shop also sells authentic maps from bygone eras if you wish to take an authentic piece of local history from the 1800s or early 1900s.

My daughters and I had a wonderful time on our recent Walking Ghost Tour. This was not at all scary. Actors played ghosts of historical figures and would talk about their lives and experiences when they were alive. The skits took place at the appropriate locations around downtown Syracuse. We were then treated to donuts and cider back at the museum - what a nice touch.

If you have any interest in history, you'll find this museum worth a visit. If you don't, you still might enjoy a brief walk through as the exhibits cover a broad range of topics and have many interesting items on display.

The focus is on local central New York history, focused on Onondaga County but with a perspective that extends to statewide, national and even international scope in places. I am guilty of having neglected this museum for the 40 years I've lived here and my guess is that many other local residents similarly have never been here. To those who live here, I recommend that you give it an hour or so of your time; you won't be disappointed. To those who are just visiting or passing through, I think you'll find things of interest here to make stopping by worthwhile on your way to or from other activities.

This is a relatively small museum, on two floors of an old downtown Syracuse building. My interest in history is about average, nothing much more, but it still took me about 90 minutes to go through the exhibits. There's lots on slavery and the underground railroad, and a balanced presentation on local views on slavery in the 1800s. The importance of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) natives is explained. There are many interesting items and stories about the area's various industries and their products, ranging from salt to manufacturing. There is a very good display on the pottery and china industry. The roles of the canal system and the railroads on local development are shown. And much more in a relatively modest sized museum.

There's no charge to enter, but a suggested donation of $3 per person. We paid it and felt that it was well worth it.

We had a wonderful time at the museum! The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The exhibits were very interesting and comprehensive. There was so much to look at! All the artifacts were well preserved and had a lot of explanation about them.

There was an exhibit that included an interactive portion that was very exciting to watch. It was so interesting to see all the different eras of Syracuse history.

I highly recommend this museum!!

Strong collections of print, photographs, and some interesting artifacts. The exhibition curators have done outstanding work in interpretive stories about national themes in a local context. The arts and crafts objects and exhibits are exceptional. The African American exhibition with its slavery component is timely and thoughtful. The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable. All in all, a superior operation. Syracuse is fortunate to have the highly professional organization.
