Wilderstein Historic Site, with its exquisite Queen Anne mansion and Calvert Vaux designed landscape, is widely regarded as one of the Hudson Valley’s most important examples of Victorian architecture. The estate was the home of Margaret (Daisy) Suckley, whose extraordinarily close relationship with Franklin Delano Roosevelt has been well-chronicled and is the subject of much interest. Wilderstein’s guided tour includes the elaborate 1888 interiors of the first floor of the mansion, the exterior architecture, landscape, annual exhibition, and video. The regular season for guided tours is May through October. In addition, the mansion is open and decorated for the holidays from Thanksgiving weekend until the end of December. There is also a network of hiking trails on the property, special events throughout the year, a gift shop, and spectacular Hudson River views.

Luckily for us, our friends told us about Wilderstein and we took a tour there recently. It begins with a video in the old downstairs kitchen, where you can see the old ice box, fireplace and get a glimpse of the family tree. The home has been lovingly restored and the tour guide Evan Q, was quite knowledgeable and made... More

This historic site is the most complete and evocative. It's my favorite and has been for years. Be sure to visit often to watch the amazing restoration of the structures and landscape.

Worth stopping at this site for a quick tour. Located an a beautiful spot with gorgeous view. It is a quick tour since you can only view the first floor. Interesting after going to Hyde park since Daisy was part of that era and social circle. Also interesting to see the did fence in style here compared to so many... More

My husband and I took the house tour today. The tour guide was so informative. He knew so much family history. The house is amazing and the views of the river spectacular. We walked a couple of the hiking trails and just enjoyed the scenery. We would definitely recommend people come see and learn about this historic site.

I have read quite a few reviews about this estate & was saddened that so many people panned it. First of all, the site itself is gorgeous. It is set in a bend on the Hudson & has a wonderful view of the River & the Lighthouse. I brought my dogs & we walked along the carriage road & then... More

The tour guide gave us a wonderful tour of this beautiful home which is in the process of being restored. It was a hot August afternoon and there was no air conditioning so it was quite uncomfortable so I suggest holding off till the fall unless you have to go when it's hot then it's worth toughing it out as... This is a beautiful house with lots of history. Tour guide made tour very interesting and was willing to answer all questions. We really enjoyed the tour. My husband growing up in Rhinebeck was able to tour the house many, many years ago and see some of the rooms that are not shown today. He said they are beautiful as... More

This place is beautiful. Right on the river. Very, very nice. The grounds are lovely for a picnic or just an afternoon to enjoy the view.

While not as large as some of the other estates, this one is still worth seeing. A very livable home with interesting furnishings and a great view of the Hudson River.

Beautifully restored (so far) house with a fascinating history, surrounded by pretty grounds. Our docent Chris was terrific and very knowledgeable, clearly fascinated by and enthusiastic about the home and the family history that goes along with it. We stumbled on this site, but it ended up being a highlight of our trip.
