In a lovely building on the Vassar College campus, this museum has some excellent examples of art across time and geography. The usual blind spots (not enough women or non-European artists; most are white) but great stuff and also fine temporary exhibitions. Free, too.

We have been taking an annual fall journey to the Hudson Valley for about 15 years. So we are always looking for new sites to see. Vassar's Art Gallery is amazing! We specifically went to see the Heroes exhibit, but fount a vast amount of other artworks in this rambling gallery. A pleasant surprise. (Also visit the Shakespeare Garden on... More

It is a nice museum. Nice Francis Bacon. Nice Rothko. Nice Dubuffet. Nice Vuillard. Not a huge collection. The Hudson River works didn't knock my socks off. Definitely not a Yale collection but still unquestionably worth seeing. T

The Loeb is a treasure house of wonderful art works in the permanent collection and highly intelligent shows expanding our views of how art permeates our consciousness. Solid selection of 20th century art and a fine sampling of earlier works. When friends visit we are always happy to go with them. No admission fees, Open late Thursday nights often with... More

Designed by IM Pei the entrance way cool green filtered light immediately let's you know your entering a different space, quiet contemplative open. There were several exhibits going on, one of the Hudson River School painters another about astronomy and the third appeared to be some recent acquisitions to the museum. In the showing of Hudson River School painters there... More

Spent a very warm summer evening here last Thurs for two reasons: to get out of the heat and to see a very interesting "Astronomy as Art" special exhibit. As always, the exhibit was fascinating and reflected the amazing variety of art collections that Vassar College seems to amass. What we were not expecting was a special performance of PowerHouse... Each time I visit the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar, I wonder why I don't go more often. The Gallery is a sparkling gem, with provocative, cutting edge exhibits, as well as wonderful permanent collection groupings. The setting is delightful, and the gallery is just the right size to see everything when you visit. And It's open late... More

The art center is just inside the main gate at Vassar College. The exhibitions change several times a year. They are small but beautifully displayed, with just the right amount of information to enhance your visit. They have a varied collection ranging from antiquities to contemporary works. When we visited there was a delightful display of treasures from the past,... More

The center has a very fine exhibit of American and European art with an impressive collection of Hudson River Valley School paintings. While just one or two each of the works of twentieth century artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe, Picasso, Pollock, Miro, etc., the selections were exquisite examples of their work. Well worth a visit!
