    Colobus monkeys
Jozani forest is not very important to visit. The forest has only monkeys nothing much to see. We did both spice tour and jozani forest. We only liked spice tour. Great guide suleiman +255756983368

    Forest tour
This is a pleasant half day tour to see the red colobus monkeys close up. We were escorted by a ranger through the forest which included fern forest & mohagany trees. We were later given a tour of the mangrove forest via a board walk.

    Over-Priced and Congested
A poor quality experience after the superb National Parks on the mainland. Here, the main focus seems to be to extract as much money as possible from you. The entrance was chronically congested with tourist taxis. You are put together in large groups for a 20 minute walk in the forest. If you want longer or a smaller group size.....hand over another $30. Our guide seemed solely driven by the prospect a tip and offered only cursory comments during our marginally extended "yomp" through the forest. The guides seem to encourage visitors to get ridiculously close to the monkeys presumably so that good close-up photos equate to larger tips. Incidentally, both typed of monkey are easily visible from the road that passes through the park.

The tour was okay. Not as amazing as we thought it would be. Walking around the green forest was nice. And seeing the colobus monkeys was fun. They are such cute animals. The issue was that our guide didn't seem to have enough experience and our group was too big. I think it's better if they limit groups to a maximum of 10 people.

    Green all around
The forest and mangroves were beautiful and very well preserved by the community in the area. It was a really fun experience seeing the monkeys up close but you’re unlikely to see much of the other wildlife in the forest since they stay away from the trails taken during the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us a good understanding of the ecosystem in the forest as well as its history.

    disappointing
The quality of your visit will largerly depend on the quality of the guide. Unfortunately, ours was terrible ! Consdiering we were french (fluent in english though) they decided to assign us a french speacking guide. But his level was probably poor and basically, he hardly spoke at all !

    Monkey business
Disappointing. First, the guide we had told our group the rules to follow with the colobus monkeys (keep a 3 meter distance for example) and we were happily surprised. Then, we saw a first monkey and the guide didn't keep any distance with it... After that we saw a group of monkeys and it was full of people, very close to the monkeys (less than a meter). A big disturbance, allowed by the very passive guides. It is sad because it would have been great otherwise, the informations the guide gave us were interesting and the forest is beautiful. We advise to guides to follow the rules they give to tourists. If you come here, be minded that it is a business industry and not an ethical conservation program for this beautiful species.

Well organized, clean tripical forrest.
Entrance fee is 12 USD for a 4 hours trip, defenetly worth it. The guide was quite, but patient and helpful.
Defenetly the best experience in Zanzibar.

Worth the visit. The experience varies highly depending on your guide, but then again the monkeys make up for that. A positive surprise at the end of the tour.

Guided by Adam, my wife and I were in a small group, shown around the forest, meeting the Colobus monkeys, and visiting the mangrove area. Worthwhile and informative trip.

We went as part of a package, but this was by far the best part. Thabbit (not sure on the speeding) was energetic and very informative. He answered questions and explain about the plants and animals of the forest. He pointed out red colobus and blue as well as an elephant shrew. We talked about animals in the US (manatees) and what animals we hoped to see during our visits. Wish we could have stayed all day with him.

Jozani forest is a excellent place for a 2h tour. Plenty of monkeys, a lot of different plants and trees in the forest and mangrove forest make this place unique. It was a great time in national park!
If one preferes to go by hired car - way is easy and car park (free of charge) is available. We were on our own, 1 ticket for adult - 12$, guide (obligatory) included in that price. Everything could be paid at the reception.

Good for monkeys, geckos, elephant shrew and mangroves. Bad for the usual shameless Zanzibar behavior ie asking twice as much as the entry fee (12 dollars for 1 -1.5 hour tour) as a tip then arguing using the usual nonsense “ private tour more expensive” ( there aren’t private and group tours there’s just a guided tour) . After two weeks of endless rip offs round the island I’ll be glad to leave.
