What a glorious hidden gem. I don't understand the bad reviews. My family and I all headed up here for the day and we were so pleasantly surprised. It was absolutely amazing! The water in the lagoon is like something out of a movie or Thailand, it was warm and shallow and we even found a lone seal that swam right into the shallows to catch fish. We saw several animals, duika, mongoose, small bush mouse as well as heaps of lovely birds. The restaurant that has such bad reviews was delightful. All the weaver birds and guinea fowl roaming around out the back and the menu had good choices, sandwiches, wraps, calamari, burgers, drinks and reasonably priced. We entered through the Langebaan gate which was just picturesque. I would totally recommend taking the time to trip north for the day and see this little marvel.

Apart from the stunning colours of the lagoon and the strange rock formations, there is very little else to see. The few types of animals that were there were very sparse indeed and the vegitation was just boring scrub. The highlight for us was the abandoned shepherds hut perched on a huge granite outcrop with great views of the lagoon.

About four hours needed in total to drive North for this and would recommend on the way up diverting through the town of Darling and stopping at Koffie My Darling cafe for a very nice brunch.

Omg the water was so beautiful! It was a little expensive to go in, but totally worth it! We saw lots of animals! The beach was incredible!

Entrance st Lucia, cost approximately ZAR100 pp. Have I.D and car registration #. Pack picnic lunch. No shops within the reserve. Give yourself at least 2 hours each way to and from Cape Vidal. We were promised to see 4 of the big 5. Only 1 but plenty wild life. We arrived at Vidal at high tide. The snorkeling was not good, especially with wind blowing and dangerous currents. A few starving hawks grabbed bread rolls from our hands! Stunning beach but beware of the strong currents. We headed south mud afternoon stopping at most hides. The park and its animals came alive towards late afternoon and stunning sunsets on St Lucia Estuary. A memorable experience all round. We did the trip twice and thoroughly enjoyed it all regardless of not seeing the Big 4!

Having experienced - and loved - this small NP in the summer months, returning in the near Sring facilitated witness to the spectacle that is the wildflower season. Carpet after carpet of the most brilliant colours, this collection of the most robust yet delicate flowers was vivid and memorable. I get now why it’s a ‘must do’ of any visit to the Western Cape.

We came to see flamingo’s and were not disappointed. The bird hides are excellently placed and we could get close to the birds, but we do realize that it may depend on the tides. Lots of birds, small sunbirds to large ostriches. Wonderful views from mountain tops to beaches. They list some commonly seen animals in their booklet but we didn’t see a single mammal and when we asked about them at the information center we were informed they haven’t been seen in years.

A beautiful park with amazing views of the lagoon. The roads are in perfect condition. We didn't see much wildlife but we had come for the birds and the views so we were very happy!

This a well hidden gem and rewards anyone who takes an hour drive from Cape Town. The Lagoon area is filled with white sand and blue water. Nice for a picnic and relaxed day by the beach. The national park is well maintained and cellphone (Network) reception was good. The picnic spot next to the lagoon had braai and toilet facilities. One must come prepared though as there are no shops around (We haven't seen any).

Very relaxing (if you adhere to the speed limit) Saw ostrich , mongoose and tortoise. Views are spectacular and provision is made at a few places for a picnic or braai on the beach.
Alternatively the Geelbek Restaurant is excellent
