A pity. This fort used to defend Mindelo harbour. Nowadays, it has been bought by particulars to build an hotel and casino. In January 2016 access was cut off by a metalic fence and very little activity could be seen inside.

This may have been worth visiting in the past, but it is now only visible from a distance. It is now a ruin, and you cannot get close to it. It is no longer worth making the effort to see it, except perhaps in passing.

The old fort, which has also been a prison, is in a bad state of repair, and there have been plans to knock it down to build a casino complex, though there's no sign of work going on now. There's a fence around it, and...More
