Nice. Also the square is nice and very pupoular for locals. Good starting point for a walk in Tarrafal.

Nice little church at the front of the square. Unfortunately, we could not go inside. It was closed and not sure what had happened. Perhaps, it may be open on Sundays. We were there on a Wednesday evening.

Tarrafal has quite an attractive center around the Praça (the main square) with the 'Camara Municipal' (Town Hall), several colonial houses and the relatively big church of Santo Amaro Abade (the abbot saint Amaro), the patron saint of the place, whose fiesta - with lots of music - is always on January 15th.
Saint Amaro is a somewhat mythological holy man, of whom not much is known. Said to be a 16th century abbot of maybe Galicia, he is supposed to have crossed the Atlantic Ocean in search of an earthly paradise. Today he is mainly venerated on the Azores and in Brasil. When depicted, he is always shown with a pilgrim's staff.
