    Interesting
Interesting to see the lemon sharks swimming near your feet. We saw just the young ones, small size, but it's possible to see the big ones as well the most of the times. We were on a daily trip, this was one stop

    Touch sharks in the wild
The lemon sharks are small and harmless. They’ll swim around your legs in shallow water, about 10 meters from the shore. The site itself is remote and you’ll need local knowledge to find it. You can rent water shoes on the shore (2 euro). This is essential as the shore is rocky. Nice and memorable experience for the whole family. The approach road is bumpy and dusty. We were happy to be in a 4 x 4 car.

Wild sharks in their natural environment
There is many possibilities to experience these sharks. You can go by yourself or take a shark excursion from Santa Maria or you can do like we did - take a private island excursion (whole day 180 euros for six persons) and have a Shark Bay as one of the pit stops. What you need is water shoes e.g. crocks (because of rocky surface) and then you enter to the sea. If you do not have your own shoes, you can hire them for 2–3 euros / pair. You enter to the sea and walk approximately 20 meters from the shore - if you have swimming suit put it on or at least have shorts to change (you'll get wet at least if you are a short person). The beach is natural nursery rife of lemon sharks so you'll be able to watch wild baby lemon sharks while they swim around your legs in their natural environment. Nice / different experience. And if you do this by yourself, do not touch the sharks - at least our guide told us not to touch. And if you go by yourself please notice that the sharks came because our guide fed them. So I am not sure if they come if you go empty handed.

    Challenging!
I didn't enjoy this - but I'm glad I did it. My partner was very impressed. For me, the problem was that I hadn't understood how far we would have to walk out into the sea across very unstable small rocks - this made me nervous as I was convinced I was going to fall. The water wasn't deep but the current is evident and that added to my poor balance. Once we'd reached the first baby sharks I stayed put (whilst they swam around my feet) and waited while my partner went out deeper to the bigger sharks. I would definitely recommend it but I, personally, wouldn't want to do it again. One baby shark video for the grandchildren is enough :-)

Worth doing while on the island
Came as part of a TUI tour. You stand among the shallow waters and let baby lemon sharks swim among you. The adults were only about 30m away. TUI provide a marine biologist to give you the low down on the sharks. A great experience. There is nowhere to change there and the toilets are grim and 1 euro so avoid if you can! Croc rental is 2 euros.

Make sure you have thick swim shoes on as my swim shoes was not thick enough to walk in the sea with and was difficult to walk on the rocks so the guide had to go back and get me some cross, they offer me crocs before but I refused as I thought my shoes were sufficient enough. Wow !!!! all I can say is that it was a beautiful and scarey moment, I will never forget.

    Well worth a visit
I’m not very steady on my feet so didn’t venture too far out. It’s like walking on lumps of coal so really uneven. However I did see lots of lemon sharks. They are totally oblivious to human legs and swam all around us. There are lots of men that try to sell beads and wooden carvings from wooden trays. I bought an overpriced wooden shark that looked nothing like the sharks I’d just seen 😂. I bartered but decided that he probably needed the escudos more than me. Cape Verde is a very poor country 😣but beautiful

Incredible place, it's amazing that kind of shark's maternity, and the way they are naturally protected

In a remote Little Bay, I recommend you take Crocs or hard shoes with you as the water terrain is quite challenging with slippery rocks. Although you can hire cross here for €5. We also took hiking poles as I'm unsteady at the best of times. Lovely warm clear water, lots of Lemon shark babies swimming about, lured in with nibbles by the guides. A great experience and an amazing view of baby sharks up close.

This polluted beach really affected me to think about what we are doing to our oceans. There were plastic everywhere, bottles, fragments of fishing nets and more. Our group left the beach with a bad feeling. Dont go there if you dont like to be depressed.

So cool! We went on a local tour with a marine biologist who took care and didn’t feed the sharks to help them to hunt naturally. We saw tons of baby lemon sharks 🦈

Booked this tour in resort with you, picked up by a driver & Jordi our guide, about a 30 mins drive to shark bay with Jordi telling us interesting facts on the journey.

We took our own water shoes but you could rent crocs, I was worried it might be really slippery after reading other reviews but it was ok, we quickly had sharks swimming around us and Jordi was pointing them out & talking about them, we were lucky to see bigger Finn's a short way out ...I was glad the larger sharks stayed in deeper water! As the babies were about a meter long. We were stood in ktbee deep water but the waves were coming up to our middles so a tip is to wear swim stuff.

We were in the water for about half an hour before walking back, we didn't have any hassle from the sellers on the beech and we were back in the resort within 2 hours. Would recommend..

We went tehre with a tour. It would be a bit tougher to find on your own, but manageable. You turn right at the beginning of Espargos, following the signs to salines. Then when you see a a sort of a quarry with trucks and diggers you turn right to the dirt path (there's no sign here). Then just follow it and you can't miss. Bring your water shoes, or you can hire for a few €. To be honest, I didn't expect much, but it was a really great experience having small sharks swimming by your legs. In the end, it was the best part of the island tour. So, if in doubts, go.

Great to see but disturbed by some guides tempting the sharks with bait. It seemed cruel and does not encourage them to hunt.
