Such awesome day trip to go and hike. The town hosts a great selection of beer, food and awesome times. Don't be scared New Paltz won't bite, more like a little slap and tickle ;)

The Shawangunk Ridge is spectacular. Mohonk Preserve is New York States largest member and visitor supported nature preserve. Be sure to stop at the Visitor Center for maps, suggested hikes, with ideas from friendly staff.

Our family parked at the Visitors Center to get a map, pay our $15 fee for a wrist band (supports the preserve), and opted for an 8.2 mile (round trip) hike from the center to Sky Top Tower. The scenery and lake around Mohonk Mountain...More

It is fairly tight--but it's not so much a matter of fitting as it is maneuvering out. if you're hesitant have a companion go first to give you a hand.
