We hiked Battery 113 Road, which was cool. It was a little weird that about 100 yards into the trail you walked through a hole in the chain link fence. Don't worry folks, that's the trail. The trail is very very well marked in most places. You crossed over 6 wooden bridges (2 x 8s). Then you hit one of... More

This is a good driving tour with sites to stop along the way. This was a great history tour of post world war 2 and cold war.It was very interesting to see the abandoned giant radar, 3 artillery batteries, and the military base.

A gorgeous view to the East of the lighthouse. Pretty bluffs. Trails to explore. Easy parking (need an $8 permit per car). Not much shade anywhere - bring water and sunscreen!

I originally was attracted by the fishing reviews (excellent by the way) but after hearing about the legends and rumors about the Air Force facility, I had to check it out. The old buildings have an ominous feel, especially after reading all the stories about experiments in esp, time travel and more. Sealed man hole covers are sprinkled throughout the... More

I first went here back when it still belonged to the federal government, and there were loads of signs saying it was illegal to visit. Back then, you could walk right into the radar building.(fenced off for years now.) They've made the place safer for the public, and you can see the old gun emplacements, the HUGE radar dish, and... Believe it or not this camp actually was still in service until I believe the 70's keeping our shores safe. You can see the bunkers, etc and even walk down to the beach. VERY , VERY rocky and slippery. Remember if you climb down the dirt pathway, you will have to walk back up. Be very careful near the bluffs... More

Decide to take a drive through and stop for a picnic lunch. Quiet location with a nice ocean view from the bluff but not much else.

The former bases located on Camp Hero State Park have a few remnants left behind as fascinating reminders of WWII and decades of Cold War. We enjoyed the tip of the park and the lighthouse, but I was specifically intrigued by the bunkers and the AN=FPS-35 Radar System, the only intact example of a large, frequency diversity radar in the... Off the beaten path and very peaceful, this spot is great for a short walk or exploration. The dock is also nice to walk out on. Great place to take the dogs too~
