Welcome was pleasant tour self guided . The exhibits are really complete. A lot to see . .The air conditioned 1954 Pontiac is a gem. Parking right in front of 215 Niagara Street.
The museum is a complex of multiple buildings with easy access in walking thru. Small entry fee and don't forget donation box.

There are 5 buildings to explore. We spent 2 1/2 hours with our volunteer docent, Joan. She explained so much about the area, its history, and the items on display. Most things had simple name tags...her explanations brought them to life. It would most certainly be a less interesting to wonder through the displays without hearing the stories behind them.

Small but very informative , Loved the interactive movie and introduction via the packet boat demo / ride. Very informative with voices of various people on and off the canal.
Very much worth the minimal donation.

I was born, raised, and continue to live in this corner of Western New York State. A visit to the museum is always a great and fun learning experience. The museum is well curated and offers many aspects of the development of our area. It also highlights the many, many inventions and innovations created here that have enhanced our world. It is an easy stop for 10 minutes or 2 hours. You will leave amazed.

The Niagara County Historical Museum has a wonderful collection of Native American raised beadwork created by artisans from the local Tuscarora tribe. The Tuscarora are part of the six nations which makes up the larger group known as the Iroquois. They reside on a reservation located in Niagara County and are known for their unique form of raised beadwork. This is beadwork like none other you have ever seen.

Rosemary Hill, master beader and Tuscarora Native, teaches several classes a year in this technique at the Museum. For anyone who loves to sew and is interested in learning this unique form of Native American beading the Museum is the place to be. You can contact them for a current class schedule.

Outstanding collection of local history in five different buildings! A real find for sure with an outstanding staff and many special monthly events, along with the nearly Erie Canal Discovery Center. Melissa Dunlap and Ann Marie Linnaberry runs this exceptional local history museum that also has a wonderful gift shop with many unique items. A real great value for $4 admission. A must see in touring Lockport! You cannot go wrong here!

Seems like this attraction is being confused with the canal Discovery Center there is a separate Niagara County Historical Center and it is in a converted home in a residential area. It's small but it's cute and there is some decent information about the area there.

There are five buildings that you wonder through, each with its own theme. We were given a self guided map that you return on your way out: be careful because the map needs updating and you will find yourself in front of locked passage ways. There is quite a range of eclectic pieces: toys, Native American beadwork, antique cars, medical devices, horse drawn carriages and sleds, lawyer office, Victorian furniture, Revolutionary War memorabilia, and more. There is so much that you become overwhelmed. The museum is in need of some gentle clean up, updating, and restoration. It's evident that funding is limited. A recommendation would be to highlight the most significant items in each room through lighting or as a centerpiece to summarize the importance and significance of the room in Niagara county history.

This attraction has 2 main sites in Lockport:
215 Niagara street: The Outwater Memorial Building (5 buildings): History mostly about Niagara County.
24 Church street: The Erie Canal Discovery Center: History mostly about the Erie Canal and the Flight of Five locks. (the main picture shown on TripAdvisor is the Erie Canal Discovery Center).
When parked at the Discovery Center, you can walk to the locks that are nearby and also stroll along the canal.
The museum is really worth the small charge they ask for.
Guided tour is very educational and interesting.
The history of the Erie Canal and the Flight of Five are facinating.
You must visit Lockport and especially those historic sites when in the Buffalo-Niagara area.
Very interesting little town !
