About
Walk through the Olympic Center and you’ll see hallways adorned with plaques and banners toting the achievements of past Olympians. You’ll find a museum filled with memorabilia, photos, and video footage from the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Games. In the Olympic Center and on its grounds are skating rinks, open to the public, where gold medals have been won – including the famous Herb Brooks Arena where the “Miracle On Ice” game was played and the speed skating Oval where many Olympic and other international speed skating competitions have been held.

Great place to watch hockey with family and friends we were lucky enough to watch an invitational tournament at the facility w here the USA won there gold medal match against the USSR.

For a facility that is 23 years old its is a great stadium.

Even if you are not an athlete or sports fan, you will feel the excitement of that 1980 game where the USA won the gold. There are also current competitions to enjoy as you tour the two rinks and hall. There re restrooms, a cafeteria, and a splendid gift store. This stop was one of the high points of my trip to the Saratoga area.

Built for the Winter Olympics in 1980, this multi-purpose area is best known for hosting the Miracle on Ice game.

Lake Placid is gorgeous all year-round, but it's particularly popular in the winter and has been for more than a century. In fact, Lake Placid became the winter sports capital of America when it hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932, and then again in 1980.

you can’t even talk about Lake Placid without talking about sports. Everywhere we went to Lake Placid, people were cycling, running, climbing, and hiking. This active lifestyle has been breaded over the last 100 years.

Inside the center-
Herb Brooks Arena is such an entertaining indoor stuff to do when it’s raining or cold. try to learn about competitions past including the famous “Miracle on Ice”.

Lake Placid Olympic Museum - Established in 1994, this treasure trove commemorates the Winter Olympic games in 1932 and 1980. one of the most family-friendly downtown spots to visit in Lake Placid.

Learn the history of the Lake Placid Center in depth at its museum through videos, memorabilia from past games, and they frequently display new exhibits.

Parking: Just near to Olympic Center or mirror lake, there is a municipal parking area, of course on busy days, it's hard to get a spot, but I would say, wait there and grab a spot because it's damn cheap...!

50 cents per hour. on the street side, it's $2/hr (that is also cheap) but 50 cents /hr. is dirt cheap. and after 6 it was free (Saturday it was)

There are two indoor hockey rinks and an outside oval track (in summer its just concrete). So amazing to be inside the ice rink from the 1980 Olympic hockey victory over Russia. Old style wooden bleachers at the top and you could just imagine the excitement in a packed house. Lots of information in the museum as well. And an exciting bobsled simulator in the museum that was pretty realistic-don't miss that!

Attended hockey and short track skating events. There is a comfortable lounge and snack bar within the facility and a good view of the outdoor speed skating oval.

Very cool to visit the arena where the miracle on ice happened. There was nothing going on the day we visited, and we were able to walk around most of the arena.

The facilities were awesome for visitors. Enjoyed visiting the museum and the historic arena. Wish we were able to go skating on the oval though. Never got the chance to go, which is a bummer!

With Covid restrictions, the Oval facilities are all outside.
Getting tickets, getting rental skates, changing - all is done outside.
Very inconvenient.
Figure skates being rented is of inferior quality too.

We were very disappointed at the lack of public access to indoor facilities / play in the Lake Placid area in general. Only 2 hour time slots were available for indoor ice skating, and that was not even every day. The phone line was useless and poor customer service and information available. There was no live person to speak to, and the schedule was not posted on their website (as per the voice recording).

I wish I could have gone into the museum, but it was closed by the time we arrived. We ice skated on the speed skating Oval, which was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It is surreal to skate where the greats have skated! This is a must try! Skates are available for rental. I hope to come back to do the museum.
