About
Where the USA Olympic Hockey team won against Russia and went on to win the gold medal in the 1980 Olympic games. The 1980 Rink sits in the Herb Brooks Arena and in 2021 it underwent major updates and renovations. In particular, the 1980 Rink and concourse were equipped with LED Event & TV Quality Lighting and a new HVAC system. Renovations to the Locker rooms, public restrooms, concessions stands, and hospitality suites have also been made. And to top it off, the rink can now be converted to either international or NHL size standards.

I say excellent because I watched the history and know the names and events. But if you didn't there is far too little describing the momentous games that took place here. While it is free to walk around the arena you have to pay to go in the museum to understand what took place and what the place means to many of certain Cold War generations.

I grew up watching my brothers play hockey, which meant I also grew up watching the Miracle on Ice Movie starring Kurt Russell. Seeing the arena in person was amazing. While it’s a relatively quick activity it is definitely worth it.

Spent the week camping and visiting Olympic Venues and arena and museum were excellent. We spent the extra $10 per person to take the one hour tour of arena and it was money well spent. We have done many tours while traveling and this one ranks at the top. Sean, our tour guide, was very passionate and extremely knowledgeable and made history come alive. My 12 year old really enjoyed it as well.

Don't be afraid to walk right in here and look around. There are three rinks (1932, 1980, and a third practice one). The 1980 one is where the USA men's hockey team won. There are also lots of banners for ECAC college hockey here. The only things that seem to cost money in here are the museum and the simulator rides (for bobsled and luge I think). There is also the location of the Lake Placid Hall of Fame.

there are two rinks here, the 1980's rink and the 1932 rink. the place holds concerts and expos. we came to see the history of the place and take in the rinks themselves and experience the history of the area. overall place looked clean, parking was not easy to find, not sure why. you can easily explore the area and take it for what it is. outside the building is the speed skating tack.

Pay the $10 and take a guided tour on history of the arena, Lake Placid Olympic history and notable names from the Olympics. The tour is a little over an hour and revolves around a full 360 tour of the Herb Brooks arena and the adjacent Jack Shea arena. It's a shame not many people signed up for it, I and a family of three were the only attendees. You don't have to be a history buff to enjoy this. What I was amazed was how a small town like Lake Placid was able to host multiple Olympics and have all venues within a 10 minute drive from Main Street. You are able to see the ski jump and bobsled venues as well as Whiteface Mountain from the second floor. It was also great to be able to take a walk around the speed skating track adjacent to the arena after the tour. The only disappointment was watching the short clip of USA VS Russia game on VHS and the old cathode tube TVs. You would think in this day and age we would be able to play this on digital and flat screen monitors but this was a very small criticism compared to the overall tour.

Brought a group of 53 people from the Midwest to the arena as we were all excited to see the home of the 1980 Miracle. Is read reviews about Sean’s Donovan’s tour and wanted to make sure he walked us through. SO glad he did.

Outside of the USA vs USSR hockey game, we knew little of the happenings of the 1932 and 1980 games. Wow were we enlightened and amazed. Great place! Great tour. Do it.

My wife, daughter and I visited the Arena Tuesday 1/15. We took the guided tour with Sean Donovan as our guide. His passion for the Arena, its Olympic history, and that of the surrounding area is evident from the start. He is a true historian of Lake Placid, but a hockey fan to the core, He is personable, funny and his tour is very entertaining. I see Lake Placid in a completely different way after spending an hour with Sean. If are visiting the town, do yourself a favor and take this tour. It's only $10 pp and well worth the cost.

Visited Herb Brooks Arena and took the $10/pp guided tour. Sean the tour guide was very informative, and it was thrilling to be in the arena where the “miracle on ice” took place. We really enjoyed the tour. Well worth the money.

We were in Lake Placid during the "Mud Season", so things were quiet. I was able lleisurely ook around and even walk out on the rink floor, sit in the players bench area and soak in the atmosphere. There's a documentary playing on the overhead TV system and the names of the USA Hockey Team members names are displayed around the mezzanine level. Very moving to relive the 1980 historic victory.
