Choose a good day so you can spend the trip in the open air car or get there early to find a seat with good windows. It isn't a luxury ride by any means but it's a great history lesson and just needs some more money to get it fixed up a bit better. We did the thendra to otter... More

My children and I went to the bandits train ride and it was awesome!! They hand out fake money for the kids to hand over to the robbers.. Their are some actors that interact with the kids and families.. You see the bad guys stroll up on horses and take over the train.. It was definitely a great time and... More

Pack your picnic lunch and get off at the end of the line and have your picnic, then when the next train comes thru you can ride back to your point of origin. All the seats are good ones. The staff in knowledgeable and polite. We had a blast on our trip.

this is the absolute worst trip ever! nothing to see but junkyards and backs of houses. expensive for kids, in fact my 3yr.old granddaughter fell asleep on the way back. and after arriving in l.p.we had no where to go because it's too far away from downtown and no shuttle to take you there and back. never again!!!!!

Sun Oct 7 Fall Foliage Train. It was the perfect cool crisp sunny day to take this train trip through the beautiful Adirondack mountains. The trees were just ablaze with color. Standing outside at the back of the train afforded some great picture opportunities of the track and backdrop of mountains. Open seating first come first serve but I would... More

My husband and I took the railroad trip in the 2nd week of october. The colors were out in full force. The music as one reviewer put it is bad :-) but at least it is not loud. The coaches are comfy, you can walk around. There are closed coaches and open ones. the open ones are basically 2 long... More

We went on the wine tasting/adult Halloween train ride tonight. The ride and wine were great; however the music and singing was quite the opposite. We were never told that it was going to turn into a karaoke train ride. The music was loud, and you couldn't hear when the conductor was speaking. While its a great concept, they should... More

The ride was pleasant. There was a long line for tickets, even though we had purchased online. Because they didn't open up the ticket booth until 15 minutes prior to the train departure, the train left 30 minutes late. There were not enough seats for everyone in the enclosed cars, so families with children had to sit in the unheated... More

Lovely hour and a half ride from Saranac Lake to Lake Placid and back. Interesting things on display at train stations at both ends. Option of heated cars or open car. Help support the historic railroad. They are trying to get the lines linked up to go from Placid all the way to Utica. What a nice trip that would... More
