Beautiful Waterfall
Oct 2021
We were in Ithaca recently and found our way over to the falls as we brought the cameras along and thought it would be a great photo opportunity. Convenient parking with a very short walk over to the base of the falls where we set up the tripod. They do charge a $9.00 fee, but the kiosk takes credit cards if you don't have dollars lying around your vehicle. Great way to spend a few minutes if you're not into hiking the trails. We would have wandered up but it was a cold blustery day so maybe next time.

Quick Stop
Sep 2021
We drove by Buttermilk Falls State Park and could see the waterfall, so made a quick stop. One of many waterfalls in the Ithaca area, the falls are visible from the parking lot and the Gorge Trail leads up alongside. The water cascades down into a small pool though swimming is prohibited. We got some pictures from the pool and hiked a short ways up along it, but didn't stay long since it was close to sunset. I think there are more waterfalls further up the gorge and would like to explore more if I ever come back.

A hiking surprise
Oct 2021 • Couples
The gorge trail winds down through rock with small waterfalls slowly becoming larger ones. A delightful hike, so glad I went. It is possible to hike all the way down to Buttermilk Falls on the gorge trail from the top, or you can go partway down and drive to the bottom to see the namesake waterfall. I enjoyed the upper part more, it was lovely and intimate.

Another pretty falls
Oct 2021
Seeing the falls was worth the hike. It's one of a number of falls that are in this area. If you're up to it and the weather is nice...do it!

Slippery but worthwhile hike
Sep 2021
We spent a few hours hiking the trail along the gorge to get to the falls. It can be strenuous for some because of the steps and can be difficult for some with the steps being wet. It is well worth the energy and effort for the views of the falls and rock formations.

Nice Urban Park
Oct 2021
I was expecting to feel like I was in the middle of the wilderness and this is not the case here. A lot of the trail is paved and has man-made stairs. Basically, this is a nice urban park with a beautiful fall, but if you enjoy hiking in nature, away from people, this is not what this is about. This is very developed.

Gorge Hike is Amazing
Oct 2021 • Couples
Buttermilk Falls is a great hike when you have about 75 minutes. Spend your time carefully walking up the stairs on the Gorge Trail, next to the falls. You’ll be amazed at the number of things you’ll see as you climb up that are not visible from the bottom. It took me 45 minutes to climb up, allowing for pauses to take pictures

Hike up to the stone bridge and cross over to the other side and take the Rim Trail back down. It’s not scenic, but is faster. But if you want scenic, go back down the way you came up on Gorge Trail.

Note: It costs $9 to park your car in the lot.

Wow

Beautiful and tall bridal veil type of waterfall. Lots of steps to climb but well worth it. Not much to see in the upper part of the park.
