My family and I preferred this park to some of the better known local attractions. Beautiful waterfalls adorn steep gorges. You have to hike in and out of the North entrance to see the best attractions, and the climb is long and steep. The south entrance offers an easy walk to a swimming hole at the base of a waterfall.... More

As alums of Cornell, we have fond memories of the place. We vuisited this summer, and were sad that the falls (the main attraction) were reduced to a drip. Since it was an unbearably hot day, we did not walk down to get a closer look.

I can't say enough good things about this beautiful place. 2 mile hike up the gorge trail was fantastic. Road was sometimes uneven, sometimes a little steep. Lots of steps, wear good walking shoes. Lots of areas where you could go down to the water for fantastic pictures and swimming, some pools shallow and some deep. Lucifer falls was the... More

We first did the Gorgetrail and on the way back the Rimtrail. It took us about 2 hours. The hike was hard sometimes because of the stairs. But it was really worth it. The river is quite dry at the moment, but there are still nice little waterfalls. After the hike we went for a really nice swim at the... More

This our favorite of the 3 state parks (Watkins Glen and Buttermilk). We started at the lower parking lot and walked up the gorge and then returned the same way. There are many steps but they are usually even. The views are amazing, even with the current drought affecting the quantity of water flowing in the many waterfalls. We appreciated... More

What fun! We came here twice on our road trip to the finger lakes! Great swimming hole in a state park. There are several life guards that so a great job! Awesome tall diving board that everyone gets a kick out of. Water temp is posted every day and can vary! The water falls make a neat back drop!!

We walked the gorge trail to see the waterfalls and rock cut by the forces of water over time. So pretty, angular and refreshing on a hot day. The gravel walkway has uneven steps so be sure to pay attention as you gaze in awe at this beautiful park's treasures.

Based on the map, we thought we would walk the round trip from the lower park to the upper by the gorge trail and back by the rim trail, but the stairs defeated us. We turned back before we got to any dramatic gorge areas. Back at the parking lot, we checked out the swimming area, which is spectacular, at... More

A friend brought us here for a picnic, but I didnt know there was a waterfalls in it. We were able to see the campsite. After the picnic lunch we proceeded to the Buttermilk Falls not far from this place. Nice clean park with a hall and restroom facilities.

The upper fall had many natural pools that my little one enjoyed, we did the gorge trail with her, and than my husband went back with her and waited for us on the bottom falls. Walk was fantastic, super fun, bit challenging at times but I enjoyed seeing group of children by themselves walking the trail. Great great park.
